SiS at NuMi HQ next Sunday!

We're delighted to have SiS (Science in Sport) on the snacks table for our morning with Holly Archer. SiS is one of Holly's long-standing sponsors and a brand most runners will recognise from race-day goody bags up and down the country.

As part of our shake-out run morning with Holly, we'll be doing a little Q&A, which is open to all questions, but carbs is ALWAYS a big topic. Holly is primed and rearing to answer your questions and share her experiences, but in case you're completely to the subject read on!

Depending how you roll, we've got options including; a space right outside for one car, bike racks, walkable on-street pay and display and multi-storeys nearby if you’ve got extra errands.

We delighted our NuHome at Dragon House has a carpark, however, please ensure you’re arriving a maximum of 5 minutes before your appointment time. But why only 5 minutes before my appointment? Since the carpark is well used, and a little tight for lots of manoeuvres, we’re extremely keen to keep congestion to a minimum.

Every appointment, even when clients are in back to back have time baked in for arrival admin, fear not!

Throw your scales out the window! (responsibly)

We’re joking. Sort of...

But we do think a lot of people give the scales far too much authority.

Your weight can fluctuate for all sorts of reasons across a day, a week, or a training block. Hydration, glycogen, food volume, hormones and timing can all change the number without telling you anything especially useful about progress.

What the scales cannot do is tell you whether you have lost fat, gained muscle or changed absolutely nothing that matters.

That is where DEXA comes in.

A DEXA scan gives you a far more detailed view of body composition, including fat mass, lean mass and bone density, so you can understand change with a bit more intelligence and a bit less emotional whiplash.
If you are putting effort into training or nutrition, it is worth using a tool that can actually show you what your effort is doing.

So, obviously, don't throw your scales out of the window. Just take them to the charity shop. πŸ‘€

Still training by feel?

There is nothing wrong with instinct, but if your easy sessions are too hard, your hard sessions are not hard enough, or everything is starting to blur into one big patch of effort, it may be time to recalibrate.

You are balancing three disciplines, a training plan, recovery, fuelling, time and usually the small matter of everyday life too. Which is exactly why guesswork can get expensive, but not just your wallet for a fresh set of kicks!
