💙 A little bit about why this work matters to us…

Working in support has shown me how much of a difference the right person can make in someone’s life.

It’s not always the big things. Sometimes it’s having someone there who understands you, encourages you to try something new, helps you get out into the community or simply gives you the confidence to do something you might otherwise struggle with.

That’s a big part of why we do what we do at Nottingham Autism Support Service.

We’re currently welcoming new referrals across Nottinghamshire and have availability for 1:1, person-centred support.

We can help with things such as:

đź’™ Community access
đź’™ Building confidence and independence
đź’™ Appointments
đź’™ Hobbies and activities
đź’™ Developing everyday skills
đź’™ Providing encouragement and companionship

If you’re a family member, carer or professional looking for support for someone, please feel free to message us. Even if you’re not sure whether we’re the right service, we’re always happy to have a chat.

And if you know someone who might benefit from some extra support, we’d really appreciate you sharing this post. 💙

As a local organisation who cares deeply about the autistic community, we’re following the discussions around the new UK Autism strategy closely.

Here in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, we’ve spoken to families who have waited far too long for assessments, struggled to access the right support, or found themselves having to fight every step of the way for services that should be there from the start.

A diagnosis should open doors—not leave people on another waiting list.

The new strategy is an opportunity to make a real difference, but only if it leads to action. We need:
đź’™ Quicker access to autism assessments.
đź’™ Better support in our schools and local communities.
đź’™ Improved mental health services for autistic people.
đź’™ More support for autistic adults as well as children.
đź’™ Genuine involvement of autistic people, parents and carers in shaping local services.

Nottingham has some fantastic organisations, professionals and community groups doing incredible work(Rainbow Parents Carers Forum), but they can’t do it alone. We need investment, accountability and a system that works for everyone.

Every autistic person deserves to be understood, respected and supported to thrive—not just in theory, but in everyday life.

We’d love to hear from people across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. What changes would you like to see from the new Autism Strategy? What has your experience been?

đź’™ Together, our voices can help shape a better future.

We’re excited to introduce Comfort and Company, a new service from Nottingham Autism Support Service Ltd.

While many people know us for the work we currently do, Comfort and Company has been created to provide friendly support for older adults who would benefit from a little extra help to remain independent at home.

Our service focuses on companionship and practical support, such as:

Friendly companionship visits
Support getting out in the community
Help with shopping or appointments
Wellbeing checks
Light household support

Our aim is simple- helping people stay comfortable, connected, and independent in their own homes.

If you or a loved one may benefit from some extra support, please feel free to get in touch for a friendly chat about how we may be able to help.
