Health Professionals, do you have any Deaf patients with cancer who communicate in British Sign Language and would appreciate our support? We can help them understand their cancer in British Sign Language, and we can connect them with support groups after an assessment. Refer them to us if they would like to join us. 🤟💙 Celebrating the voices of our volunteers 💙🤟

Our Volunteer Day brought together volunteers from across Self Help UK, with important conversations focusing on how we can continue improving support for Deaf people and others who experience barriers to healthcare.

Volunteers shared experiences, exchanged ideas and discussed ways to make services more accessible, inclusive and person-centred. It was inspiring to hear volunteers talk about the importance of empowering people to understand their health, access support and feel confident navigating services.

These conversations are essential to the future of Deaf Cancer Support and the wider work of Self Help UK.

Thank you to Holly Swinckels for supporting the day and listening to the experiences and ideas shared by volunteers.

Most of all, thank you to our incredible volunteers. Your commitment, expertise and advocacy help ensure Deaf people affected by cancer can access the support, information and understanding they deserve.
