Last post from us today at the BABICM Conference 2026

One of the highlights of any conference is being able to choose from a wide range of presentations and seminars, and today was no exception. With so many thought-provoking sessions taking place across the programme, there was something for everyone.

This photo shows Professor Martin Green sharing how the social care model needs to change to meet modern needs.

Just a few of the sessions our team attended included:

• Care costs money, who pays? – Helen Wyn

• Shaping digital support through lived experience – Satveer Bhalla

• Managing a client-centred case during litigation – Dr Matthew Graham, Emma Moreland and Joe Lovell

It has been another fantastic day of learning, sharing ideas and connecting with colleagues from across the sector.

On a lighter note, we never knew that socks on the outside of your sandals are the latest thing. Here is Mel Smith trying to stay warm today. Thanks, EMG Solicitors, for the socks; they came in handy 😀

Day 2 at the BABICM Conference is underway.

The day began with a powerful welcome from the guest chair, James Piercy, who shared his personal experience with brain injury and how he now works with people with lived experience to help develop the technology solutions needed.

We are looking forward to another day of learning, discussion and insight from colleagues across the sector.

What a fantastic way to round off day one at the British Association of Brain Injury and Complex Case Management

After a packed programme of insightful speakers, thought-provoking seminars and valuable learning opportunities, the AKA Case Management team had the chance to explore the exhibition hall and catch up with colleagues from across the sector.

Judging by these photos, there was plenty of learning, networking and laughter along the way too. 😃

We are looking forward to another inspiring day tomorrow and sharing more highlights from the conference.

A great day at the BABICM Annual Conference in Birmingham with a strong AKA Case Management team in attendance.

It was fantastic to see so many colleagues and associates there, including Dominic Hobdell, Andrew Rose, Dawn Abernethy, Jo Sims RN-A, Kerstin Pereira, Claire Rhodes-Andrews, Jo Maiden, Nick Snowden, Francis Maree, Catherine Watkins, Sarah Longshaw and Emma Bralee.

One of the standout sessions of the day was Steve Brown's inspiring lived-experience presentation. Steve shared his remarkable journey following a spinal injury, from rebuilding his life to representing Team GB in wheelchair rugby and becoming a television presenter. His story was a powerful reminder of resilience, determination and the importance of seeing the person beyond the injury.

The afternoon also featured an insightful discussion on the role of AI in case management, led by Daniel Casson, Ben Holden and Warren Collins. It was fascinating to hear different perspectives on how technology may shape the future of rehabilitation, case management and client support.

A few members of the team also took part in a breathwork session with Elliot House, providing a valuable opportunity to focus on wellbeing and connect with other professionals attending the conference. Particularly good to meet Elliott in person, as we have all met him previously when we took part in the online breathwork programme.

We are looking forward to another day of learning and networking tomorrow.

Day one of the BABICM Annual Conference is off to a fantastic start.

Dominic and Dawn began the day exploring the exhibition hall before joining the official welcome from BABICM Chair, Louise Chance. Delegates also heard a video message from Angela Kerr, founder of AKA Case Management, reflecting on the continued development of case management and rehabilitation practice.

The morning programme included some thought-provoking presentations. Dr Steven Alder explored how advances in brain imaging are helping clinicians better understand the causes of ongoing symptoms following traumatic brain injury, supporting more targeted and effective rehabilitation approaches.

Dr Chris Wynne from The Rehab Physio also delivered an insightful session on neuroplasticity, discussing how technology and targeted rehabilitation can help drive meaningful adaptations within the brain and body. His presentation highlighted the importance of repetition, specificity and intensity in rehabilitation programmes.

With plenty more speakers, learning opportunities, and networking still to come, we look forward to seeing what the rest of the conference has in store.

We are looking forward to attending the next West Midlands Acquired Brain Injury Forum Networking and CPD Event on 24th June 2026 in Birmingham.

The speaker line-up includes Sam White and Diskit Chosdon, bringing an important psychological perspective to the discussions, alongside a representative from Circle Rehabilitation, who will share insights into physical neurorehabilitation and recovery pathways.

Some of the AKA team will be attending, and we are very much looking forward to seeing familiar faces and making new connections.

Let us know if you are attending too.

Latest Blog - Why the IRCM renewal process matters and why it shouldn’t hold you back

Last year, our entire team of case managers successfully achieved registration with the Institute of Registered Case Managers, which we were incredibly proud of. There was a clear, common commitment across the organisation to conform to recognised professional standards and to demonstrate accountability in our work.

As we now move into the renewal period, one of the most important messages we want to share with the wider sector is simple: the process is far more straightforward than many might expect.

Yesterday, Dawn Abernethy, Vicki Gilman, and Andrew Rose attended the EMG Conference, centred around the inspiring theme, “NeuroFrontiers: Imagining a New Era of Brain Injury Support.”

The event opened with insightful introductions from Pankaj Madan and Jemma Morland, setting the tone for a day filled with valuable discussion and learning.

Every presentation offered meaningful insight into the future of brain injury support and rehabilitation. Pictured here are speakers Judith James, Daniel Thomas and Victoria Butler, whose sessions were particularly engaging.
