Imagine losing your home overnight. Then losing every familiar face around you too.
That’s what our Cannock and Stoke on Trent home care team were determined wouldn’t happen to Clint.
A huge wildfire destroyed his home, forcing him to move into emergency respite accommodation.
Clint has learning disabilities, and familiar routines and people are really important to him. Too much sudden change can be incredibly upsetting.
His home was gone. His surroundings had changed. His routine had been turned upside down.
His care professionals didn’t need to change too.
Branch Manager Hayley Laytham worked with the local authority to make sure Clint’s usual team could continue caring for him in his temporary accommodation.
Including our care professional Fungai Dube, who knows Clint incredibly well, cares deeply about him and has spent time building his trust.
When Fungai turned up, Clint was delighted.
In a week when almost everything familiar had disappeared, a familiar face meant everything.
That’s person-centred care.
