Last week, colleagues across Nottinghamshire Healthcare came together to celebrate National Estates and Facilities Day 2026, recognising the dedicated teams who work behind the scenes to keep our services running safely, efficiently, and effectively every day.

Throughout the week, we shone a spotlight on the vital contribution of our estates and facilities colleagues, sharing stories, facts and figures that highlighted the scale and impact of their work across the Trust. From maintaining our buildings and infrastructure to creating safe, clean and welcoming environments for patients, service users, visitors and colleagues, these teams play an essential role in supporting high-quality care.

As part of the celebrations, senior leaders visited a range of sites and services across the Trust to gain a greater understanding of the diverse roles within estates and facilities. The visits provided an opportunity to go behind the scenes, meet colleagues, learn more about their day-to-day responsibilities, and see first-hand the expertise, dedication and professionalism that underpins our services.

The week also provided a chance to recognise and celebrate a number of long-serving colleagues whose commitment and contribution have helped shape and support the Trust over many years. Their knowledge, experience and dedication are invaluable, and it was a privilege to acknowledge the important role they continue to play.

National Estates and Facilities Day is an opportunity to celebrate a workforce that is often unseen but whose impact is felt across every part of the organisation. Whether maintaining critical infrastructure, supporting daily operations, delivering capital projects, or helping to create positive experiences for patients and colleagues, Estates and Facilities teams are fundamental to the delivery of healthcare.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the celebrations and, most importantly, to all our estates and facilities colleagues. Your hard work, commitment and expertise help keep our NHS running every day, and your contribution is greatly appreciated.

There is a heat health warning in the East Midlands - these alerts are issued when temperatures are likely to impact on the health and wellbeing of the population.
During the warmer weather you can keep your living space cool by closing windows during the day and opening them at night when the temperature outside has gone down. Electric fans can help if the temperature is below 35 degrees.

There is a heat health warning in the East Midlands. These alerts are issued when temperatures are likely to impact on the health and wellbeing of the population.
If you're going out in the hot weather, walk in the shade, apply sunscreen, wear a hat, sunglasses and light loose-fitting, light-coloured clothes. Drink plenty of fluids and try to avoid extreme physical exertion.

As an organisation, we are proud to support the Armed Forces community and the national rollout of the ASK Campaign, led by the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA).

By encouraging patients to share their military service background, we can help ensure they receive personalised care and connect them with specialist services and support tailored to their needs.

Congratulations to our latest Positive Stars winner Tonie Skinner, Community Staff Nurse. Tonie goes above and beyond for the service and patients. She was approached to do some focused work solely on continence provision in the service, and she has been an incredible asset. In two weeks, she worked methodically and focused her time to the extent that she completed a vast amount of assessments and undertook a thorough scope of the waiting lists. Due to her work, the current waiting list for care homes has gone from 36 weeks to six weeks

We’re excited to continue our partnership work with Sport For Confidence to explore new ways of supporting people with learning disabilities to access meaningful physical activity within their communities.

Our Newark Intellectual Developmental Disabilities team started the project as a result of a multi-disciplinary team of therapists wanting to signpost our service users to accessible sporting groups for adults with learning disabilities in our local community.

We’re thrilled to see this work continue to grow.

💜 As we celebrate Learning Disabilities Week 2026 and this year's theme, , we're proud to share a great example of what can happen when organisations come together to create more inclusive opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

At Sport for Confidence, we've been working alongside Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Notts , YMCA Newark and Sherwood Boccia England and other system partners to help create accessible pathways into meaningful physical activity within the community.

This collaborative approach is about more than sport. It's about helping people build confidence, develop skills, connect with others and feel a greater sense of belonging. By bringing together health professionals, community organisations and activity providers, we're supporting people with learning disabilities to access opportunities that are meaningful, enjoyable and tailored to their needs.

This partnership work demonstrates how inclusive, person-centred approaches can help remove barriers, create connections and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate and thrive.

We're excited to see this work continue to grow and create lasting impact for individuals, families and communities.
