Tuesday 8 September - specialist safeguarding training for managers focused on the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).

This course is for practitioners who have responsibility for implementing and embedding the MCA in health, social care and other related agencies.

Stuart Sale talks to P.C. Mandy Nutt, Police Constable Co-Ordinator, Metropolitan Police Service.

They discuss Operation Pantera, a campaign launched in 2020 to tackle cuckooing in Camden and Islington. They also talk about the Crime and Policing Act 2026, which introduces new laws to help police fight cuckooing.

On 1 July, more than 160 safeguarding and welfare professionals from across England came together at the NSPCC National Training Centre in Leicester.

This was a partnership event involving The Ann Craft Trust, the Active Partnerships National Organisation (APNO), NSPCC Sport. The event brought together Active Partnerships, Sport Welfare Officers, Lead Safeguarding Officers from National Governing Bodies. It also involved a number of safeguarding leaders from across the sport and physical activity sector.

The event focused on strengthening relationships across the safeguarding system. Attendees explored new approaches to help build safer cultures for everyone involved in sport and physical activity.

The event involved talks and presentations from Christian McMullen and Liza Ware from NSPCC Sport, from Jeremy Lemarchand, Head of Welfare and Safeguarding at Sport England, and from Stuart Sale, Chief Executive of The Ann Craft Trust.

Dr Ellie Gennings delivered the keynote speech. Dr Gennings shared new research exploring how children and young people understand what helps them feel safe in sport.

Reality TV needs to take safeguarding seriously.

The reality TV show Married at First Sight UK was recently pulled from TV following claims of abuse during filming.

These allegations led to intensified scrutiny of participant safety, with some individuals stating they were not adequately protected during filming.

These safeguarding failings in the entertainment sector raise some serious questions. Who is responsible for ensuring participants’ safety when producing such programmes? Is it the people on set? The production company? The channel that commissions the show?

The answer must be all the above.
