Frensssss!

To all my kiddos out there that got their ears done this 6 weeks holidays!

🚨 YOUR PIERCINGS WILL NOT BE HEALED ENOUGH TO TAKE OUT 🚨

Some schools are super strict for P.E, but you shouldn’t be taking them out. Even for an hour.

Even if you had them done at a place that sells you ā€˜rapid’ solutions!

It’s physically impossible for your body to heal a piercing, in 6 weeks!

Have a read if this post, and remember there’s a massive difference between feeling fine and looking okay, to being properly healed.

All the love!

Is this not the most GLORIOUS thing you’ve ever seen?

I didn’t pierce this conch, but I sure as hell made it boooouujeeee!

I was actually a lil nervous, I wasn’t sure whether this would fit, especially as I didn’t pierce it. But my client couldn’t stop thinking about it and said f**k it let’s get it I can always put it somewhere else hahaha here for it!

But it was actually PERFECT!

Something I’ve been thinking about for a while.

This post is intended to open a conversation - and it’s no shade on piercers as I looooovveeeeee a good educational post and I love love love that clients are so knowledgeable now but I’ve just been noticing a few things.

As I scroll through instagram I’m constantly hit with ads for sh*tty jewellery companies using OUR words.

Implant grade, labret, Threadless, lifetime guarantee. Using our information and words we’ve spent years teaching clients so they can make safer, more informed decisions, to sell products that often don’t meet the standards those words are supposed to represent!

I see people on tiktok piercing themselves ā€˜but it’s okay because they’re using implant grade and clamps’ Like whaaaaat.

Piercers with shoddy work saying they’re to be trusted because ā€˜they use blades and not cannulas’

So it got me thinking- are we educating a bit tooooo well and actually creating a lil bit of a problem for ourselves?

Not because education is bad - it isn’t. It’s amazing that clients are so much more knowledgeable!

But information is easy to copy! I’ve had clients invest money on Etsy because the listing uses words I did, and it’s actually turned out to be sh*tty metal!

The language we’ve worked so hard to teach has become marketing!

The confidence that comes from watching a few videos and repeating buzzwords is sometimes mistaken for competence.

I don’t think the answer is to educate less.

I think maybe it’s to keep reminding people that knowing the terminology isn’t the same as understanding the craft.

I’d genuinely love to know what other piercers think. Have we accidentally created this problem, or is this just the inevitable downside of making information more accessible?

Man oh man this is starting to irk me hahahaha

ā€œWe only use implant-grade titanium.ā€
It’s become the industry’s favourite buzzword.

And don’t get me wrong - implant-grade titanium is what I choose to use too.

But just because someone says they use implant-grade titanium doesn’t mean they do.
Can they show you the mill certificates that prove the jewellery meets the standard they’re claiming?
And even if the jewellery is genuine implant-grade titanium- that doesn’t automatically make someone a good piercer.

You could have the highest-quality jewellery in the world, but if it’s pierced at the wrong angle, with poor anatomy assessment, incorrect sizing, or inadequate aftercare advice, that piercing can still have problems!

Great jewellery matters. But so does technique, knowledge, experience.

So don’t let ā€œimplant-grade titaniumā€ be the only thing you look for when choosing your piercer ā¤ļøāœØ

The jewellery companies have cottoned onto it too- costume jewellery selling ā€˜implant grade’ titanium for Ā£15? lol. I smell šŸ’©

It’s one piece of the puzzle- not the whole picture.

I sometimes wonder if we’ve created this problem ourselves as piercers.

We’ve done such a good job educating the public that now the buzzwords are being used as marketing, whether they’re backed up or not.

Food for thought- I’ll write another post about this soon. šŸ˜‰

Piercings just don’t heal on me.ā€

ā€œI would love to get my ears curated but I can’t heal cartilage piercings.ā€

ā€œThey always reject.ā€

I hear these things all the time!!! And I always say to people PLEAAASE don’t let a few bad experiences put you off getting pierced!

There are SOOOOO many reasons a piercing might struggle to heal:

• The angle it was pierced at
• The placement itself
• The jewellery quality or fit
• The aftercare advice you were given
• Whether the jewellery was ever downsized
• Trauma from sleeping on it, catching it, or knocking it with a hairbrush etc etc

There are soooo many reasons why your piercing/multiple piercings you’ve had might not have healed

Did it not ā€˜heal’ because you only waited 8 weeks šŸ˜

The truth is, not every piercing is performed with the same level of skill, experience, or attention to detail! And some piercers don’t have the experience to be able to troubleshoot an angry piercing! I’ve been piercing for 11 years- I seen some shiiiiiiiit *inhales cigarette* (imaginary I don’t smoke lols)

That doesn’t automatically make someone a bad piercer! (Although there’s a lot out there) But it does mean you might not have been set up for the smoothest healing journey possible!

And on the flip side, you can have a beautifully pierced ear with perfect jewellery and still experience bumps along the way. I’ve pierced some BANGING piercings before and they’ve still had problems!

Stress, Illness, Hormonal changes, mental UK weather changes, accidental knocks from your loving but careless boyfriend. Life happens!

So if you’ve had a couple of difficult experiences in the past, don’t write yourself off as someone who ā€œcan’t heal piercings.ā€

You might just need the right placement, the right jewellery, and a piercer who knows how to troubleshoot when things get a little grumpyyyyy!

Don’t let a few bad experiences stop you from getting the ears of your dreams ✨

We are here to help guide you along every step of your healing journey! ā¤ļøāœØ

This gorgeoussssssss piece has been sitting in my cabinet for so long.

Whenever this happens, I always think it’s waiting for the most PERFECT home- and it found it with my lovely client Francesca. šŸ„¹ā¤ļøāœØ

It couldn’t have fitted her any more perfect- the colour, the fit, the style.

10/10

Sorry about long video! And that it doesn’t make much sense but I just wanted to speak my mind- not a polished edited version of me lols

There’s loads more I could say but it makes me very emotional.

I know I don’t owe anyone an explanation but I just felt like I did want to speak about why I’ve been abit absent on here. It’s not that I don’t care anymore or have better things to do- there’s been some intense stuff to deal with and I’ve been carrying the weight of it for a couple of years and it’s been getting really heavy.

I feel like there’s been a real block of me showing up because I feel like I’m not being authentic pretending everything is fine and that’s one of my values. I’ve always shown up authentically on here. The good, the bad and the ugly.

I so feel nervous sharing this as the internet is not always kind. But I’m doing it for me to see if this block shifts now I’ve got this heaviness off my chest!

I realise I’m kinda speaking in riddles because I’m not explaining what it is- but it’s not something I can share yet.

I know this is another rough patch that I will navigate through, I’ve weathered many storms in this business but sometimes it’s just so fuggin HEAVYYYYY

I always say that you’ve got to love what you do because it keeps you going, but this situation is sucking all the joy and love out of everything.

It’s a funnnnn suckerrrrrrrr

I don’t know exactly what I need and what any of you can do, I just felt like I needed to speak and hopefully move this heaviness!

Thanks for listening! ✨
