Curious to learn a bit more about Seeing Solutions?
BBC In Touch visited our shop to talk to us, and some of our wonderful customers, to find out what we do to help blind and partially sighted people.
Give it a listen this evening on Radio 4 at 8:40pm, or anytime on BBC Sounds https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qxww/episodes/player
Would love to know what you think.

We’ve been experimenting with iron-on tactile braille labelling for clothing. Just putting them through some durability testing. This one says ‘blue’, but you could have them say anything you wanted.
If you think this is a good idea, let us know your thoughts and we may release them soon.

[The image shows a dark blue T-shirt featuring large white text and a tactile braille label ‘blue’ near the sleeve hem. Above the braille is a small, white logo]

For blind and partially sighted travellers, we are excited to announce that we are now providing customisable bus hailer signs. We would love your feedback!

The signs are 17.6cm x 12.7cm and are made of 3mm acrylic. They have a yellow, reflective backing and use a font specifically designed to maximise visibility and readability in dark and poor conditions.

The text is customisable to display any number, bus line name, or just 'BUS' if preferred. They have the partially sighted symbol in the top right corner, and the text 'PLEASE STOP' along the bottom. The signs are laminated for durability.

We can also customise the tactiles for orientation. We can add a bump-on to the top right corner on the back, or provide it with an angled corner. Also, the back can be labelled with embossed text or braille.

Individual signs are £10, but we are considering providing a discount for multiple signs.

They can be ordered over the phone on 0115 9816636, by email to [email protected], or in person at our shop on Greyhound Street in Nottingham. They will soon be available to order online, but for now, please use one of the above methods.

Many thanks to the Nottingham Forest Disabled Supporters Association (NFDSA), for inviting us to the City Ground to let us show how the Viewpoint can help with watching sports.

We had a great time trying the headsets out to see what they can do. We found that once you get everything adjusted for your sight they are comfortable to wear and allow you to zoom in on the action and enhance the picture. You get much more context than using a monocular.

COME ON YOU REDS!!!

If you would like to try a Viewpoint for your hobby, get in touch. We’re always interested in finding problems that can be solved with wearable tech.

The winner of the Poetry competition is Blind Ambition by Stephen Holloway.

Blind Ambition
She longed to join the RAF
To quell that feeling of bereft
Feel the page of Equal Ops
About shooting guns and pop, pop, pop
But flying high was her ambition
Up in the air with full munitions.

Top brass suggested;
Although she contested
That a cockpit was out of bounds:
Enter that word discrimination
Echoing around the military station
They wanted her anchored on ground.

More and more barriers
How’d she get in a Harrier
And would there be room for her dog?
Equal Ops said:
Flight controls can be read
By the unsighted feeling in brail
Up high in a glider
With her spaniel beside her
Then practise the swift exit bail.

She’d longed to join the RAF
Our heroine – blind Elizabeth
The parachute was packed by her
Unopening, hearing only barking fur
One last tug on tangled strings
The harness suddenly grew some wings.

Equal Ops revised their manual
Now in brackets (make room for a spaniel)
And allow for all types to now take flight
Unrestrained, kites with frames
And pilotless planes
Hold no fears for those without sight.
