We welcomed Creative Pathways into our home for a wonderful watercolour painting session with our residents.

What a talented group we have — the creativity shown throughout each session was amazing to see. Residents were taught different painting techniques, learning how to use a variety of brushes and watercolour styles to create beautiful pieces of art. Each session began by practising a new technique before putting their new skills into creating their own masterpieces. From peaceful landscapes and calming seascapes to detailed portraits, every painting was unique and full of personality.

The sessions were not only creative and fun, but also incredibly meaningful for many of our residents living with dementia. Art activities like these can help encourage self-expression, improve confidence, support concentration and spark memories from the past. Many residents shared stories about painting and drawing at home years ago, bringing back treasured memories and conversations amongst friends.

There was lots of laughter, encouragement and pride throughout the activity, and it was lovely seeing everyone so engaged and enjoying themselves together. We cannot wait to welcome more creative sessions into our home soon.

BBC Radio Social Care Breakfast Show:

We had the wonderful opportunity to welcome BBC Radio into our home to help celebrate social care. The team spent the morning with us broadcasting their 6am breakfast show live from Beeston Rise, giving listeners a real insight into “a day in the life” of a care home.
Throughout the morning, they interviewed residents, staff members and relatives, asking them about their experiences of living, working and having loved ones in a care home. Residents shared their personal journeys about how they came to live in a care home and what helped them choose the right place for them. It was a lovely opportunity for everyone to speak openly and proudly about life here at Beeston Rise.
The radio team also spoke to a variety of staff members from different departments within the home, asking questions about their individual roles and the importance of the work they do each day. It was a fantastic chance to showcase the dedication, compassion and teamwork that goes into making our home such a welcoming place to live.
It is so important for people to hear about life in a care home, as it helps break down misconceptions and shows the true sense of community, friendship and support that residents experience every day. Many people do not always see the laughter, meaningful activities, companionship and genuine relationships that are built within a care home setting. By sharing the voices and stories of our residents, relatives and staff, it helped listeners gain a better understanding of the positive impact social care has on so many lives.
This was such a special and important day for everyone involved. The residents who took part in the interviews loved participating and sharing their stories, while other residents gathered together in the lounges around the radio to listen to their fellow residents and staff speaking live on air. The morning brought so much excitement, laughter and pride throughout the home, and we feel incredibly privileged to have been part of such a wonderful celebration of social care.

We are very sad to announce that, unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, we are having to postpone this experience.

As soon as we have a new date arranged, we will make sure to let everybody know and keep you all updated.

All though this experience has been postponed, we will still be taking part in Dementia Awareness Week activities within our home, so keep an eye on our page to see all of the wonderful things our residents will be getting involved in throughout the week.

This year we had the lovely experience of hatching chickens here at the home. The chickens started off as eggs in the incubator before hatching into adorable little chicks. We had the chickens with us for 10 days, giving our residents the opportunity to watch them grow and help look after them each day.

Our residents absolutely loved having the chickens in the home. Every morning residents would come down to check on them, making sure they had enough food and water and giving them plenty of love and attention. Many residents enjoyed sitting with the chicks and having a warm cuddle with them.

We regularly brought the chickens out for residents to hold and enjoy. Everyone commented on how soft and tiny they were, and it brought so many smiles and conversations throughout the home.
This activity benefited our residents in many different ways. For some, it gave them a sense of purpose and responsibility, almost like having a little pet to care for each day. For others, especially residents living with dementia, the experience provided wonderful sensory benefits through feeling how soft, gentle, and fragile the chicks were.

The chickens brought comfort, happiness, reminiscence, and companionship to our residents and created a calm and joyful atmosphere throughout the home.

Beeston Rise Bake Off

April’s Tanglewood Has Taste theme was an Easter Bake Off, and our residents decided to take it one step further by saying, “Let’s do a Great British Bake Off!” — so that’s exactly what we did.

Our residents got busy making a variety of delicious treats including decorating cakes, cookies, and freshly baked scones. Everyone enjoyed getting involved, from mixing ingredients to decorating the finished bakes, with plenty of laughter and teamwork along the way.

We then opened up one of our Wednesday morning coffee mornings to members of the community, who kindly joined us to judge all of the wonderful treats. We have to say, we received some very impressive scores!

The activity brought back many happy memories for our residents, with lots of conversations about baking with their children and families over the years. Some residents even shared their own baking tips and tricks with staff and others taking part.

This was a really enjoyable experience for everyone involved and created a lovely atmosphere throughout the home. Activities like this encourage social interaction, confidence, reminiscence, and a sense of achievement, while bringing residents and the local community together.

We had the lovely pleasure of hatching chicks again here in our home. We received 7 eggs, and we were delighted to see 4 of them hatch into beautiful little chicks!

It was such a special experience watching them grow day by day. Each chick was different in its own way, with their own little personalities, which our residents really enjoyed getting to know.

We cared for them until they were strong and healthy enough to return to the farm to live a happy life.

This experience brought so many benefits to our residents. It gave a real sense of purpose and responsibility while helping care for the chicks, and watching them hatch and grow was both calming and rewarding. It also encouraged conversation, reminiscence, and social interaction, as many residents shared memories of farming or animals from their past.

Having the chicks in the home created a warm, nurturing environment, boosting mood and wellbeing while keeping everyone engaged and involved

It was truly a heartwarming experience that brought lots of smiles to our home 🐣
