๐ŸŒป Our Scarecrow Project at Beeston Rise ๐ŸŒป

Here at Beeston Rise, we have been busy making our very own scarecrow! Our residents thoroughly enjoyed getting involved in the creative process, helping to design and put together our fantastic creation.

Unfortunately, due to the terrible weather we have been experiencing, we have had to hold off putting our scarecrow outside for the time being. However, keep an eye outโ€”we will be displaying it very soon!

Activities such as making a scarecrow provide many benefits for our residents. Creative projects encourage teamwork, communication, and social interaction while giving everyone a shared goal to work towards. They also help to stimulate cognitive skills, promote a sense of achievement, and provide opportunities for residents to express their creativity and individuality.

For those living with dementia, hands-on activities can be particularly beneficial, helping to maintain fine motor skills, encourage reminiscence through discussions about gardening and the countryside, and provide meaningful engagement in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.

We are incredibly proud of the hard work that has gone into our scarecrow and cannot wait to show it off once the weather improves! ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ˜Š

Here at Beeston Rise, we love a pamper session with our ladies! Whether it's having their nails painted, enjoying a hand massage, or simply spending time chatting and relaxing together, our pamper sessions are always a favourite.

Pamper sessions offer many benefits, particularly for those living with dementia. They can help boost self-esteem and confidence, allowing residents to feel valued, cared for, and proud of their appearance. The gentle touch involved in hand massages and skincare can be incredibly calming, helping to reduce anxiety and promote relaxation.

These sessions also provide wonderful opportunities for social interaction, encouraging conversation, laughter, and reminiscence. Many residents enjoy sharing stories about their favourite beauty products, special occasions, and memories from years gone by.

Most importantly, pamper sessions are a chance for our ladies to take time for themselves, feel special, and enjoy a little bit of luxury. Seeing the smiles on their faces and the confidence they gain afterwards makes these sessions truly worthwhile. ๐Ÿ’…โœจ๐Ÿ’–

We enjoyed a lovely sensory session with our residents. The session included bubbles, our sensory cats, a variety of different textures to explore, plenty of conversation, and even a little sing-song together.

Sensory activities can be extremely beneficial for people living with dementia. Exploring different textures and sensory items can help stimulate the senses, encourage engagement, and provide comfort and reassurance. The bubbles created a calming and enjoyable atmosphere, while our sensory cats offered companionship and opportunities for nurturing interactions.

Throughout the session, residents were encouraged to talk about their experiences, memories, and feelings, helping to promote communication and social interaction. Singing familiar songs also helped to spark memories, improve mood, and encourage participation from those who may otherwise find communication difficult.

Overall, the session provided meaningful stimulation, encouraged social connections, reduced feelings of anxiety, and brought plenty of smiles and enjoyment to our residents. It was wonderful to see everyone engaging in their own way and sharing such a positive experience together. ๐Ÿซง๐Ÿฑ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ’™

We welcomed Creative Pathways into our home for a wonderful watercolour painting session with our residents.

What a talented group we have โ€” the creativity shown throughout each session was amazing to see. Residents were taught different painting techniques, learning how to use a variety of brushes and watercolour styles to create beautiful pieces of art. Each session began by practising a new technique before putting their new skills into creating their own masterpieces. From peaceful landscapes and calming seascapes to detailed portraits, every painting was unique and full of personality.

The sessions were not only creative and fun, but also incredibly meaningful for many of our residents living with dementia. Art activities like these can help encourage self-expression, improve confidence, support concentration and spark memories from the past. Many residents shared stories about painting and drawing at home years ago, bringing back treasured memories and conversations amongst friends.

There was lots of laughter, encouragement and pride throughout the activity, and it was lovely seeing everyone so engaged and enjoying themselves together. We cannot wait to welcome more creative sessions into our home soon.

BBC Radio Social Care Breakfast Show:

We had the wonderful opportunity to welcome BBC Radio into our home to help celebrate social care. The team spent the morning with us broadcasting their 6am breakfast show live from Beeston Rise, giving listeners a real insight into โ€œa day in the lifeโ€ of a care home.
Throughout the morning, they interviewed residents, staff members and relatives, asking them about their experiences of living, working and having loved ones in a care home. Residents shared their personal journeys about how they came to live in a care home and what helped them choose the right place for them. It was a lovely opportunity for everyone to speak openly and proudly about life here at Beeston Rise.
The radio team also spoke to a variety of staff members from different departments within the home, asking questions about their individual roles and the importance of the work they do each day. It was a fantastic chance to showcase the dedication, compassion and teamwork that goes into making our home such a welcoming place to live.
It is so important for people to hear about life in a care home, as it helps break down misconceptions and shows the true sense of community, friendship and support that residents experience every day. Many people do not always see the laughter, meaningful activities, companionship and genuine relationships that are built within a care home setting. By sharing the voices and stories of our residents, relatives and staff, it helped listeners gain a better understanding of the positive impact social care has on so many lives.
This was such a special and important day for everyone involved. The residents who took part in the interviews loved participating and sharing their stories, while other residents gathered together in the lounges around the radio to listen to their fellow residents and staff speaking live on air. The morning brought so much excitement, laughter and pride throughout the home, and we feel incredibly privileged to have been part of such a wonderful celebration of social care.
