Strength training is not only for athletes or people who enjoy the gym.

The World Health Organization recommends muscle-strengthening activities involving the major muscle groups on at least two days each week for adults.
Strength exercises can be adapted to your age, current ability, equipment and experience.

That might mean using weights, resistance bands, bodyweight exercises or practising everyday movements such as standing from a chair or carrying objects safely.

A one-to-one Reformer Pilates session begins with you.

Your physiotherapist and Pilates instructor will consider your goals, current ability and any injuries or health concerns before developing a tailored programme.
The session can then be adapted and progressed as your movement, control and confidence develop.

This may be particularly suitable for someone who would prefer individual guidance before joining a class or who has a specific rehabilitation or fitness goal.

Feeling better is important, but returning to sport usually involves more than waiting for pain to settle.

Rehabilitation should be individualised around the athlete, the injury and the physical demands of the sport.

The question is not simply, “Has enough time passed?”
It is also, “Are you prepared for the running, turning, lifting, jumping or repeated effort your sport requires?”

That is why return-to-sport rehabilitation should be progressive and specific to the individual.

Why choose Physio-Led Pilates

Not all Pilates classes are the same.

At Excellence Pilates, we have classes led by and overseen by qualified physiotherapists, meaning every exercise is backed by a thorough understanding of anatomy, biomechanics, injury, and movement.

That means we don't just teach exercises, we help you understand why you're doing them and ensure they're appropriate for your body.

They can help if you are:
✔ Recovering from an injury
✔ Living with back, neck or joint pain
✔ Returning to exercise
✔ Looking to improve sporting performance
✔ Wanting to stay strong and active as you age

Our physiotherapy knowledge allows us to adapt exercises, provide individual guidance, and help you move safely and effectively.

Our aim isn't just to give you a great workout, it's to help you build strength, improve mobility, reduce the risk of injury, and develop confidence and understanding in how your body moves.

From complete beginners to seasoned athletes, we believe everyone deserves expert-led movement.

Come and experience the difference that physio-led Pilates can make.

📍 Flexible booking – no need to commit to a block of classes.
💙 Move better. Feel stronger. Live well.

Returning to activity after childbirth does not have to happen all at once - the arbitrary 6 week check is not the green light to resume all activity immediately!

We want to heal, rebuild the foundations, listening to your body and build activity in a graded manner.

Experiencing pain, leaking, pelvic heaviness or uncertainty about returning to exercise is really common. After childbirth women benefit from individual assessment, support and guidance to enable them to recover properly and achieve their goals. 🙏🏻

Pelvic floor training is not simply about doing as many squeezes as possible.

For stress or mixed urinary incontinence, NICE recommends a supervised pelvic floor muscle-training programme lasting at least three months as a first treatment option.

A Pelvic Health Physiotherapist can help you understand how to contract and relax the muscles correctly and create a programme suited to your symptoms and goals.

Pelvic health concerns are common but never normal, and you do not have to live with them.

Being active does not have to mean completing a formal workout.
Walking, gardening, household tasks, taking the stairs and short periods of planned exercise can all contribute to your overall activity.
Updated UK physical-activity guidance reinforces a simple message: even small amounts of movement can benefit health.
Start with something manageable and look for ways to make movement a regular part of your day.

Hands-on treatment can be useful, but it should not always be the entire treatment plan.
For low back pain, NICE advises that manual therapy should be used as part of a wider package that includes exercise.
Depending on the person, treatment may also include education, activity advice, strength work and a home programme that develops as symptoms and ability change.
The aim is not simply to feel different for an hour. It is to help you build confidence and make meaningful progress between appointments.
