What’s the most interesting thing about you? And what do people think it is?

I love this little discrepancy because what we find interesting about ourself might not what other people do. And vice versa.

My inner voice is loud and relentless.

So when I found out that many people don’t have one I just couldn’t get my head around it! I mean… it sounds peaceful!

Are you one of those people? And if so what do you have in place of an in er monologue?

17 years ago today I tried to take my own life.

I thought I had nothing left to give. Here’s the story of how I was wrong.

I won’t write too much here. As there’s a LOT of words on the images. 😇

What I will say is even though I have faced the darkness since. I am SO happy to be here. 💝

Comparison is the thief of joy. But what about perspective?

The reason comparison steals our joy is because we always compare in a way where we come out worse. It’s like you could be 4th in a race of 6000 people and be jealous of the 3 that are ahead.

Perspective is different. You can notice the bad, but you have to notice the good too. And ultimately you will realise that where you put your energy dictates a whole lot of how you feel.

When you switch comparison for perspective you swap jealousy for inspiration.

I know which one I’d rather be feeling on a daily basis. 💝

My issue with “cringe comedy”.

Let me know if this affects you too!

When you charge low, people assume you’re not very good…

This is the problem I face all the time. And sales coaches, business coaches and even PR agents over the years have told me

“You need to charge more!”

And look for corporate I charge what I’m worth. It pays my bills.

But if I’m hosting an event myself I run them for a low price, or even sometimes free.

And I have one explanation for why I do that.

My mantra is “be the person you needed when you were younger”.

I live a very privileged middle class life nowadays in West Lancashire. But that was not who I was when I was younger.

I grew up in Anfield in Liverpool. My dad had left and was paying my mum £40 a MONTH in child maintenance. For 2 of us!

Then my mum was made redundant. The car was repossessed in front of every one of our neighbours. Unashamedly watching either through those lovely late 80 net curtains or simply stood outside their terraced houses.

This became the talk of my school. And whilst I was already being bullied for having thick NHS glasses and being a bit nerdy, I was now piled on for being poor.

This is the environment my mental health journey was born in. So forgive me if I choose to never forget that. And price my online talks so as not to exclude low income families.

My next event is for parents, carers or teachers who are concerned about risk taking behaviours in the young people in their lives.

It’s priced under £10 and I even do a further discount through my mailing list.

I KNOW my work is worth more than that. But I also know that YOU and your child are worth more than that too.

Why “why?” is the worst question!

If we want to help someone change their behaviour. We want to know why. We NEED to know why.

But asking “why?” Never works… why is that?

Put simply “why” is an accusative question. It pushes people into defensiveness.

Now if we ask “what positive do you get from this behaviour?” Now we get to why with an air of curiosity and openness.

Give it a try!

This mirror image of my life will always be my favourite plot twist!

A good day vs a bad day in mental health.

If you’ve got people in your life that struggle with their mental health then they may be just like me. When they need their words the most, that’s when words fail.

I pride myself on being a good communicator. It’s one of the foundations of my job. And when my mental health is OK, I can talk about it in ways that help people understand and empathise.

But when my mental health is BAD? When I need people to understand me the most? Well my ability to communicate falls to pieces.

So if you see your friend go like me in the second scenario. I want you to notice they have diminished capacity. And instead of having them struggle to find the words, just show them a little more love. 💝

This post has been a long time coming. I never knew what bits were important. So in the end I just went with what was important to me at the time of writing.

There’s probably loads more I could say. But this is a good starter for getting to know me!
