It's always the little things.

Are surfactants damaging your skin?

We have all had it sold to us that clean skin is good skin. But, did you know being "squeaky clean" is not good news for you skin.

We've all been lead to believe that the soap suds produced when using a face wash/body wash are the cleaning agents.
This really isn't the case.
Soap suds are primarily produced by products called surfactants, or foaming agents. Typically, sodium lauryl sulphate is the most popular.
It breaks up the natural barrier and washes away your skin's oils. It changes your skin's natural environment.
You can end up with irritation, cracks in your barrier which then let's harmful pathogens and free radicals in.
You may feel that your skin is oily while at the same time being surface dry and feeling tight. Uneven patchy skin, redness, or you can no longer control your breakouts.
I always say opt for non foaming gel-like washes or cleansing creams.
Cleansing oils can also help lift of make-up and suncream prior to water based cleansing.
