I did not want my family to be broken apart and spread across two households. No one wants that.

But for some of us, there is no choice. Either it is not emotionally or physically safe to stay, or our partner takes the decision out of our hands.

At first, the pain and change can feel unbearable.

But if you’re willing to work at happiness – to let go of what you wanted, and decide to make what you have feel good, like a life you could have chosen – then life can feel like yours again. It can feel right.

I offer one-to-one support for people finding their ground during separation and divorce. You can book a free call with me through the link in my bio, or send me a DM, to share your story and learn how I can help.

Dolly Parton wrote I Will Always Love You when she left the professional partnership that had shaped her career.

She didn’t leave because it meant nothing to her anymore. She left knowing that love, grief, and the need to move on can exist at the same time.

We often expect the end of a relationship to provide its own clean explanation: the love has gone, the decision is obvious, and we are ready for whatever comes next.

For many people, it isn’t like that at all.

You can know that something needs to end and still grieve it deeply. You can miss someone and not want to return. You can make the right decision and find it terribly hard to live with.

I offer one-to-one support for the emotional reality of separation and divorce. You can book a free call with me to share where you are and find out more about my work through the link in my bio.

Just because your relationship ended badly doesn’t mean your ex is a bad parent.

Learning to separate your experience of them as your former partner from their role as your child’s parent can bring an enormous sense of peace.

It won’t happen overnight, and it requires some deliberate perspective shifting that might not come naturally, but it can change the way you experience co-parenting, and the time your children spend away from you.

If you’re struggling to navigate separation or divorce, I’d love to help.
