“We ought to face our destiny with courage” - Nietzsche.
Hmm not sure how I feel about that…
I mean - yeah! Let’s hit it, let’s have it, on we go - upwards, forwards, through…
But I think there’s some oversimplification in that one sentence.
I believe that courage - like compassion, awareness, understanding, etc - needs to be learned.
You have to see what it is and put it in your arsenal.
Anyone can have courage if they’re given it - or if they find themselves in a situation where they had to learn/earn it.
But what if they didn’t? There’s no shame in that.
We cannot be held accountable for the things we didn’t know when we didn’t know them. Or the choices we made from fear and what we thought were the best choices at the time.
But perhaps we can be held accountable for not reevaluating our life situation when we feel it's time…
For not having the courage to reassess where we are and make necessary changes.
Getting down in the muck for a time so we come out on the other side, hands dirty but a smile on our face and a path earned.
Maybe not.
Maybe it’s not the time and the strength isn’t there.
But if this is speaking to you, then maybe you already know.
Maybe you know what you need to do but are just afraid to take the first step.
Maybe that’s when you decide, “F**k it - today I’m showing up and today I am courageous. I won’t judge what I have or haven’t done here there and wherever - but I’ll face it”.
It only takes a “Yes” - that’s all it takes.
A simple, definitive, slow nod felt throughout your body.
If it’s not there yet - fair enough.
But if it is… if now is the time and stepping up is something you can’t avoid anymore - drop me a line. A simple message, “yes” and I’ll do the rest.
