I’ve shared snippets of my Jain faith on Stories for years… but I’ve never really shared what being Jain means to me. 🙏🏽🤍
So during this special period of Paryushan, it felt like the right time.
Jainism is my religion, but it’s also a way of life - one that has shaped so much of who I am and how I try to live.
And so much of that comes from my beautiful Ba. 🤍
Her extraordinary devotion, faith and tapasya inspired me growing up.
I also see my Mother in Law also devoting her life to Jainism and she is currently observing Paryushan in the most auspicious temples in Palitana India. 🇮🇳
I call myself a “Modern Jain.” My own practice looks very different to my Ba’s - particularly when it comes to fasting - but I’ve realised that there are so many ways we can turn inward and work on ourselves.
Less anger.
Less ego.
Less judgement.
Less excess.
Less noise.
More compassion.
More humility.
More gratitude.
More service.
More forgiveness. 🤍
These are Jain teachings, but I think there is something in them for all of us - whatever our faith or beliefs.
If this carousel helps even one person understand Jainism a little better, I’ll be very glad I finally shared it.
Jai Jinendra 🙏🏽
And to anyone I may have hurt, knowingly or unknowingly, through my thoughts, words or actions - Michchami Dukkadam. 🤍
Which of these principles speaks to you most?
