FarmAbility

FarmAbility FarmAbility runs a practical outdoor programme for adults with a learning disability and/or autism on farms and gardens in Oxfordshire.

FarmAbility is an outdoor, farm-based programme of animal husbandry, horticulture and seasonal tasks for adults with autism and learning disabilities. These are our co-farmers. Working in small groups, supported by enthusiastic staff and volunteers, co-farmers gain a real sense of purpose and achievement, while building the practical and vocational skills they need to move forward in their lives.

Transport can be a daily challenge for families of disabled children and young people - and those experiences matter.

The Community Transport Association is inviting parents and carers to take part in its survey, funded by Motability Foundation, to better understand unmet needs and explore how Community Transport can make a real difference.

This survey is for:
• Parents and Carers of disabled children and young people aged up 25
• Young people aged 16-25 with a lived experience of disability.

Survey respondents can enter a prize draw to win one of three £250 high street vouchers. Please, if you have time, have your say today: https://accessiblesurveys.com/v2/1qcPfe0NrrNgrIzhBBNS/intro

The Community Transport Association is researching the transport barriers faced by disabled children and young people, and parents and carers play a vital role in this.

Funded by Motability Foundation, this survey is gathering real experiences to help shape more inclusive and accessible transport solutions for families.

Hip hip hooray 🎉

Once again we are celebrating 30 Days Wild Challenge! This June we’ll be sharing all the ways we connect to nature and our wild sides everyday at FarmAbility…

This week we’ve been loving the satisfaction we get from watering plants and helping them grow 🌱

Another way we have shown compassion for nature is by making a pond for wildlife at Willowbrook… the rain these last few days is really filling it up!

We have also found, protected and recorded a bee orchid at Gagingwell 🐝

Last week at Park Farm we went pond dipping and zoomed in on some beautiful little water creatures 🪲

And finally we found a mystery egg… any ideas what kind of bird it could be??

Stay tuned for more posts for the rest of June 🤩

Today we hosted our annual celebration of FarmAbility volunteers. A lunch and activity afternoon held every year in Volunteers Week to say THANK YOU to the 30+ regular volunteers supporting our work each month. Altogether, our volunteers support us to a total of 150 hours per week!

Most of our volunteers work alongside programme leaders to increase co-farmers’ engagement on our various activities, while some volunteers provide specific expertise, for example in craft projects and woodworking and even on areas such as IT support.

Many volunteers also help us to run our community events throughout the year, providing much needed extra hands to ensure such activities run smoothly and with everybody made to feel welcome.

To all of our volunteers, including our trustees, THANK YOU! Today we came together to share food, FarmAbility honey and the NatureWell Approach at FarmAbility, including activities such as wildflower bingo, nettle cordage and a walk to find and share nature’s quiet beauty surrounding us.

If you would like to find out more about volunteering at FarmAbility, do please visit our website farmability.org.uk for further information and contact us on [email protected]

It’s national Volunteers Week 2026, an annual celebration recognizing the vital contributions of volunteers across communities. On Monday, we hosted an amazing group of corporate volunteers from Mace. THANK YOU so much to the fantastic team who worked sooooo hard laying this beautiful, tiled floor.

This is actually a double thank you to Mace Construct as the tiles they laid had been donated by Mace just 3 months earlier!

Having a cleanable floor in our indoor space at Willowbrook Farm is a huge step forward, this helps reduce dust and consequently supports our co-farmers and staffing physical and mental health.

We have been fortunate to work with Mace a number of times over the last couple of years and value their generosity and aptitude for building work.

Generous donations of both time and materials such as this enable us to spend our precious funds on delivering our service. If you/your employer would like to support FarmAbility via the donation of materials, donation of skills and/or corporate volunteering, do please contact us: [email protected]

Thank you Mace Construct, please come again!

May so far at FarmAbility…

At Park Farm we’ve been cuddling lambs and cats and perfecting our pottery and woodwork skills.

At Gagingwell we’ve been making a dent in the compost pile and creating brand new veggie beds.

At Sandy Lane we’ve been working as a team to soil sieve and feeding lettuces to the chickens.

At Willowbrook we made a new bench to enjoy sitting outside in the summer.

And at Long Hanborough we always make sure we have the right PPE… even for watering the Dahlias!

Did you celebrate International Dawn Chorus Day?

Last week we gathered in the woods at Long Hanborough to listen to the dusk chorus…

We marvelled at a Song Thrush’ intricate nest and diverse vocals and we learnt the difference between blackbird’s and robin’s song. Highlights were hearing a woodpecker drumming and one hoot of an owl! 🐦‍⬛ 🦉
