🍂 AN AUTUMN EQUINOX INVITATION 🍂
An afternoon to pause • breathe • move• reconnect

As September gently carries us towards a new season, there is a noticeable sense of change in the air.

Autumn reminds us that change doesn’t always have to be resisted. Nature shows us how to soften, release and make space for what comes next.

So this September, we invite you to step away from the busyness of everyday life and spend a few beautiful hours with us at Above & Beyond Yoga, embracing the transition into autumn through movement, breath, rest, nourishment and connection.

Our Autumn Equinox Gathering has been created as an opportunity to slow down and turn your attention inward — something we so often forget to give ourselves permission to do.

🍁 Ravinder will guide us through seasonal Qigong, connecting her practice with the element and qualities traditionally associated with autumn. Through gentle, mindful movement and breath, we’ll explore the idea of letting go, creating space and moving with the natural rhythm of the season.

🌙 Lesley will then lead a deeply restorative Yin practice, incorporating gentle breathwork and stillness. An invitation to soften the body, quieten some of the external noise and simply notice what you need as we move towards the more inward months of the year.
Simply come as you are.

Move.
Breathe.
Rest.
Eat.
Connect.

Autumn has always been a season that invites us inward — a time to take stock, release what we no longer need and make space for what we would like to carry forward.

Sometimes all we need is a little space to hear ourselves again.

🍂 AUTUMN EQUINOX — A SEASONAL INVITATION 🍂

Notice • Receive • Release • Rest

At Above & Beyond, Seasonal Yoga is about more than changing the poses we practise throughout the year.

It is about taking time to notice the world around us.

The changing light.
The cooler air.
The colours beginning to shift.
The natural world slowly preparing to turn inward.

Nature has a wonderful way of reminding us that change is part of life. Autumn doesn’t arrive all at once — it unfolds gradually. Leaves change, energy shifts and eventually nature begins to let go.

The Autumn Equinox marks a beautiful point in the Wheel of the Year — a moment associated with balance, harvest and transition as we begin moving from the outward energy of summer towards the quieter, more reflective months ahead.

On Sunday 20th September, 2pm -4:30pm, Lesley and Ravinder invite you to spend a few hours honouring the transition.

🍂 Ravinder’s Seasonal Qigong

Ravinder will guide us through a Qigong practice inspired by the energy of autumn — creating space to slow down, breathe, gather our attention inward and explore the relationship between movement, energy and awareness.

🍂 Lesley’s Restorative Yin & Breathwork

Lesley will continue the seasonal journey through a deeply nurturing restorative Yin practice, allowing more time for stillness, supported postures and awareness of the breath.

Drawing from the traditions of Seasonal Yoga and Traditional Chinese Medicine, autumn is associated with the Metal element and the Lung and Large Intestine meridians.

Together, these traditional meridian themes offer us a beautiful metaphor for autumn:

receiving and releasing.

Taking in what nourishes us.
Making space around what no longer does.

Throughout both practices, Lesley and Ravinder will share some of the thinking behind the movements — helping you understand how an opening of the chest, movement through the ribs, the position of the arms, a fold inward, a change of direction or simply becoming still can create an opportunity to connect movement, breath, mind. Book your place through the link in our bio.

Mindful Movement & the 5 Element Theory–. Late Summer & the Earth Element

Sunday 30th August | 2:00–4:00pm | £20

We are delighted to welcome Ravinder back to the studio to facilitating a nurturing two-hour workshop exploring the Earth Element within the Five Element Theory and its connection with the energy of late summer.

The Earth Element is traditionally associated with qualities of nourishment, stability, grounding and support. During this workshop, you’ll be guided through a combination of mindful movement, self-massage, Qigong and relaxation designed to encourage you to slow down, reconnect with your body and create a greater sense of balance.

During the session you will:

* Explore the stomach and spleen meridians and their relationship with the body and mind.
* Learn Ampuku massage, a traditional Japanese self-abdominal massage technique using gentle pressure and massage around the abdomen.
* Experience gentle Qigong movements to help release physical tension and encourage mindful awareness.
* Finish with a soothing heart-centred guided relaxation, giving you time to rest and integrate the practice.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and no previous experience of yoga or Qigong is required. The session will focus on mindful movement for mental and emotional wellbeing.

Everything you need is provided, including yoga mats, blankets, cushions and workshop notes—simply come along, get comfortable and enjoy an afternoon dedicated to movement, relaxation and self-care.

☀️ Summer Solstice | 21st June ☀️

This weekend marks the start of the Summer Solstice — the longest day of the year and the beginning of astronomical summer.

The word solstice means “to stop” or “to stand still”, offering us a beautiful reminder to pause, breathe, and take a moment to notice the light around us and within us.

In Seasonal Yoga, Summer is connected to the Fire element — the most yang time of the year, when our energy is at its peak. It is a season of warmth, joy, laughter, love, compassion, connection and expansion.

The meridians associated with Summer are the Heart meridian and the Small Intestine meridian.

The Heart meridian is connected with circulation, emotions, joy, love, compassion and our ability to communicate and connect.

The Small Intestine meridian is linked with integration — helping us separate the pure from the impure, not only physically through digestion, but mentally and emotionally too.

In our yoga practice, Summer invites us to explore asanas that open the heart space, stretch the shoulders, free the chest and move energy from the centre of the body outwards and back again.

Beautiful practices for this time of year include:

✨ Cobra
✨ Bridge
✨ Camel
✨ Puppy pose
✨ Supported heart openers
✨ Gomukhasana arms
✨ Crescent lunge with lifted chest
✨ Gentle shoulder and arm opening movements

These shapes can help stimulate the Heart and Small Intestine meridians, supporting openness, compassion, joy and connection.

So today, take a moment to stand still.
Breathe.
Open your heart.
Feel the light.
And move into Summer with warmth, love and joy.

☀️ Happy Summer Solstice from Above & Beyond Yoga ☀️
