Mobility matters because it allows your joints to move freely through their full range of motion without pain. It combines flexibility with strength, helping you prevent injury, improve performance, and perform daily tasks (like bending and reaching, getting off the sofa ) with ease.

Pilates is highly effective for improving mobility because it treats flexibility as something that must be actively controlled by your muscles, not as an afterthought. Mobility is incorporated into moves so fits seamlessly into our flows.

"You may have noticed that mats for Pilates are often thicker than yoga mats, there are a few key reasons why:

- Provide spinal Support: Many Pilates moves involve rolling or lying on the back. The extra ""squish"" helps to support the spine when performing the moves.

- Joint Cushioning: The thickness of a Pilates mat acts as a buffer for protruding bones (knees, hipbones, tailbone) during matwork movements (which is always welcome!)

- Floor Work Focus: Because Pilates is often performed on the floor (rather than standing), a thicker, more padded, and often denser mat is preferred over the ""sticky"" surface needed for yoga

I'm always happy to offer mat recommendations, and if you don't have a Pilates mat, don't worry I offer cushions in classes to support your joints when you need them."

"When I say Pilates is for everyone I mean you blokes too! Here's a few of the reasons why adding Pilates to your routine is so beneficial:

- Compliments other training, like biking, running or weight lifting

- Pilates is functional strength training that focuses on long term joint and mobility health

- Versatile moves that can provide both low impact training whilst working on various muscle groups

- And let's not forget the origins of Joseph Pilates' method was to support the recovery of WW1 soldiers who were predominantly men

"Why I love a resistance band!
Once you've got the moves down and feel happy with your form we like to add resistance. Resistance bands are one of the easiest ways to do this, and I often add them to moves when people are ready to take the next step.
They may make the moves harder but also make some easier 😉
They're not only just for a deeper burn but also great to help us stretch and improve flexibility.
So don't fear the resistance band next time you see it on class " Mel x

I've said it before and I'll say it again, consistency will always win out over short-lived intensity. So find a class (or 3!) that you enjoy, will commit to and want to come back to. Pilates is great for that for a number of reasons. There's lots of different ways to move the body so the classes stay interesting; we're in small groups within a close community which creates a welcoming atmosphere; and Pilates helps with injury prevention so you can commit long-term rather then burning out at a higher intensity.
