Couple of recent pieces by Shannon. Not quite finished, but we’ve definitely made a good start!

With bookings now going into October I’ve started to think about Halloween, and because Halloween is my fav time of the year, I’ll be prioritising spooky pieces I’d love to tattoo ✨

I’m hoping to get some designs out to you all within the next fortnight, all to be discounted for October.

Managing expectations around AI tattoo design concepts.

We don’t mind you sending your AI creations over as long as you know it’s just to be used as an inspirational tool. We will never choose to tattoo the AI design on your body. It’s just not feasible for many reasons.

Instead of typing your AI prompt into ChatGPT (or similar), just send us the same words and leave it to the professionals.

AI can’t compete with the knowledge of tattoo professionals (yet!). So for now, please try to avoid sending those images over, and if you really struggle to put the concept into words and feel you have to share them, please be polite and understand when we explain why it’s often not possible and why we offer an alternative.

We have been accused of being unable to tattoo at that level and of using the above explanation to avoid admitting such - and AI knows everything. So in the most ironic fashion, here is AI supporting our views. Enjoy. Respectfully.

AI-generated tattoo concepts often fail because they lack an understanding of human anatomy, ink aging, and the physical flow of skin.

Common Flaws in AI Tattoo Designs
Impossible Proportions and Anatomy: AI frequently distorts hands, faces, and character features, such as giving characters extra fingers, misaligned buttons, or nonsensical facial structures.

Ignorance of Skin Aging: AI generates dense micro-details and muddy shading that will bleed and blur into an unreadable blob over time as the ink settles.

Disregard for Body Flow: Designs are treated like flat digital canvases rather than three-dimensional wrapping surfaces, completely ignoring muscle flow and natural body contours.

Nonsensical Composition: Background elements, random arrows, or floating objects often appear with zero logical placement or narrative purpose.

Inconsistent Linework: Line weights fluctuate randomly across the same piece, mimicking clip-art styles rather than cohesive tattoo layouts.

A tattoo… without it looking obviously like a tattoo.

For the people who want something permanent but don’t actually want to look tattooed.

Little freckle hearts, stars, constellations, tiny symbols… just mixed in with your natural freckles so to everyone else it could literally just look like part of your skin.

And no one bothering you on a night out like “so what does your tattoo mean?” 🙄

The Bank Holiday was a huge disruption to the creative output, but she’s refreshed, recharged and ready for more.

This week’s top-class clients brought a little bit of everything.

Matthew had his upper and lower pieces brought together with some shading and those deadly white highlights. ⚡️

Ryan bossed the portrait of Jasper on his calf. 🖤

And Marian kicked off her Discworld project with a Death of Rats cover-up. 💀🐀
