Certainly, August counts as two months in one.

The first part, all the pre convention preparation, brings the excitement and the realisation that no matter how long you’ve been staring at the to do list (started this one back in April), you still arrive at the day before half panicked, wondering if you actually remembered everything. This year, though, most of the stress was self inflicted. I let those warm sunsets distract me whenever they appeared, and made the most of them. No regrets, especially as I got to say arrivederci to a good friend of ours sailing away into the high seas for the next three months. 🫡🌊

Thanks to my big sis Amy, I didn’t miss an epic evening in Pendeen, geared up with all sorts of picnic goodies to watch the eclipse like many of you. I must be honest, the eclipse itself was perhaps less impressive than the sunset that followed, and the countless shooting stars we got to witness at sundown, accompanied by the perfect playlist and a few bats skimming over our heads.

Then came the convention, and I’m still feeling so full from the whole experience. The joint effort of such a bunch of friends made it genuinely special, and I loved every bit of it.
Post convention brought a completely different weather situation, a slow recovery, and then full power back at the studio, catching up and finding my routine again. The month was rounded off with a super good meal at Orto to celebrate Steve’s birthday with his folks and have a proper catch up. 🥳

September is looking busy with exciting projects, and without the pressure of convention prep, I shall pick up the commissioned painting again, aiming to get it done by winter. Last famous words.

Hope you all had a splendid month, and I wish you the same for September

Convention flash is now available to book ✨

These were all drawn for the Cornwall Tattoo Convention this year, with focus on pushing heavier contrast and playing with a lino cut inspired finish.
I’ve really enjoyed exploring this way of drawing, and there are plenty more ideas brewing already. These are now available to book, either as drawn or with small adaptations to suit placement.

📩DM me if one of these catches your eye 🌿availablility from October

Work done at Cornwall Tattoo Convention this year ✨
Thank you to everyone who came through with custom pieces booked in ahead of time, and to those who chose something on the spot from my flash book. I even had the chance to see some healed pieces from the first two conventions, which was such a lovely bonus.
You really kept me busy all weekend and I can’t thank you enough for all the trust, chats and good company 🫶🏻

I’ll be releasing the drawings I made for this year’s convention very soon, for anyone who fancies grabbing one.

And now, back all singing and dancing at MishMash Tattoos ✍🏻

I had the confirmation this year that convention blues are real. You prep for so long and then… pff. Done. I’m still incredulous at how quickly it all went.
This year Cornwall Tattoo Convention gave it all. Impeccable atmosphere, brilliant artists and so many lovely people, all sharing the love and passion for this craft and art in all its forms.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to spend the weekend tattooing alongside .tattoos and Silvio Voodoo Valda, with Tristan and my beloved Steve at the front, keeping us on track, caffeinated and fed, whilst welcoming everyone who came by our booth. I honestly can’t thank you all enough for making it such an amazing experience.

And a big thank you to everyone who stopped by, booked in, had a chat or simply came to say ciao. New faces as well as returning ones who have been waiting to get tattooed at the convention again. It really means a lot.

As Steve said on Sunday, after we packed everything away, it felt a bit like Christmas was over. I couldn’t agree more.

But, just like Christmas, there’s already the next one to look forward to. And after such a good taste of it this year, perhaps we might sneak a few more conventions into the calendar along the way ✨

Until next time, ciao for now!

With an existing tattoo framing the area, the challenge was to find the right shape to sit within that space and make the whole composition feel intentional. After playing around with a few ideas, a spiky heart for Arizona completes the centre of her back 🖤

Always such fun figuring these things out together. Thank you again Arizona ✨

Latest freehand gap filler for Shannon, with wandering branches of Virginia creeper growing out from a flash tattoo and meandering amongst healed tattoos we’ve built up over the last three years 🌿

And with next week's session just around the corner, this feels like a nice warm up for what we've been planning. Can't wait to get started on the bigger freehand project!

‘Ere it is.

‘Vestigia I’ is the first piece in an ongoing series of paintings taking inspiration from the votive artworks found in Italian chapels, where small painted images become records of people, places, wishes and moments.

I’ve always loved the intimacy of votive paintings: small, humble records of something that mattered enough to be remembered. In a way, this has always been at the heart of my work.

Here, the source material comes from a collection of pebbles and finds gathered on walks, alone and in company, over the past couple of years. Dollar Cove, Trenow Cove, Penzance beach by Battery Rocks. Each one carries a trace of a particular moment. Tokens of times when time didn’t matter quite so much, and it was enough to be there, with the people and the landscape.

The project began with an excellent prompt from Hamish Kilpatrick, when he asked us to make new work for Mishmash’s fifth anniversary. The brief was to make something that shows where we are artistically now, and, perhaps most importantly, something we would genuinely love to see translated onto skin.

Since moving into full time tattooing, my work has inevitably shifted. Tattooing has become the underlying craft through which I now look at composition, pattern and image making, and this painting gave me a chance to take those ideas somewhere else for a while.

As the standard description would have it, this is a flash sheet.

And yet, for me, it feels more like a challenge. A concept still unfolding. I knew while painting it that this was only the beginning.

These compositions will be tattooed freehand, allowing the pattern to adapt to the body and build organically over the course of multiple sessions.

Now ‘Vestigia I’ lives at the studio MishMash Tattoos, waiting to find some skin.

📩If any of these compositions have caught your eye and you’d like to know more, let me know.

With love,

M x

When Tom approached me with this idea, he wasn’t quite sure how I would take it.

“Would you mind tattooing a spiderweb… over your own tattoo?”

Aaabsolutely! ✍🏻

So here it is, a second layer over cherry blossoms I tattooed three years ago. I’m especially looking forward to seeing how this one heals, as I’ve since switched to a different pigment that has been healing noticeably darker than the one I used for the cherry blossoms.

Thank you Tom for yet another fun one 🕸️

After a few years' break from getting tattooed, Megan is back!
We've been preparing a very exciting Cornish botanical sleeve, but first, to ease back into it, we started with her favourite blackberry branch.

Very excited to see this project grow and take shape. Thank you Meg 🤍
