When I wrote my April recap, I confidently declared that May wasn’t going to bring anything particularly noteworthy. Looking back, I’m not entirely sure what possessed me to say that.
One of the highlights was joining a foraging course by 7th Rise with Moss along the River Fal. We spent the day learning about plants I’d walked past countless times without ever properly noticing, discovering just how much food and medicine can be found hiding in plain sight. The day ended around a table, sharing a delicious meal prepared with ingredients that Stuart Woodman had gathered along the way 🌿
For one weekend, I also found myself promoted to Morris’s temporary mum. Between walks, sandy paws, and the slower rhythm that comes with having a dog around, I was reminded how much can be missed when moving too quickly. Everywhere has burst into flower.
There was plenty of family this month, too. We celebrated my mother-in-law’s birthday at home with Steve’s family, only to discover that our house is far less equipped for hosting than we’d imagined, specifically in the chair department 😅 It was one of those wonderfully chaotic gatherings that leaves you wondering why you don’t do it more often.
The month finished with a visit from my folks. We caught the last stretch of sunny weather, revisiting some favourite corners of West Penwith and enjoying an excellent roast at The Mexico Inn. It’s been almost four years since they last visited, and despite the many trips they’ve made to Cornwall over the years, I still get ridiculously excited showing them around. 😇
And somehow, June is already here. The evenings are growing longer, the calendar is filling up, and you can feel Golowan gathering on the horizon. 🥳
Wishing you all a wonderful month ahead 🫶🏻
