Today our morning outdoor learners spent time learning how to plait the ponies manes in different styles and our afternoon lot spent time mindfully taking them out. Both activities were great for supporting self regulation and co-ordination at Minds & Manes

Hello and welcome to the Canter Coffee Club page!

For those who are new here, I'd love to introduce myself.

My name is Nicola, and I have a background in Psychology and Social Work. My journey into equine-assisted learning began in 2007, and I have continued to develop my knowledge through qualifications and training including EAGALA, TAAC, Trauma-Informed Practice for Humans and Horses, and Tellington TTouch.

I also worked within Educational Support Units in the Netherlands, based within the care farm system and focused on Equine Assisted Learning. During that time, I witnessed first-hand the incredible impact that horses and ponies can have on people. Their presence can help support emotional regulation, build confidence, encourage positive behavioural change, and create opportunities for growth in ways that are often difficult to achieve in traditional settings.

Today, I collaborate with Alex from Minds and Manes to plan and develop our outdoor learning groups. We work closely to consider the needs of the children and young people who attend, creating experiences that are meaningful, engaging and enjoyand enjoy the many benefits that being outdoors and around animals can bring.

Seeing children, young people and adults flourish, gain confidence, build connections and discover new strengths is what makes this work so rewarding. Watching individuals grow in confidence, discover new abilities and find a sense of belonging is a privilege, and one of the reasons I remain so passionate about this work.

We're delighted you've found us and look forward to sharing our journey, the Minds and Manes ponies, our activities, and our upcoming events with you.

Coming up over the next few weeks:

🐴 We currently have two spaces available in our quieter Monday afternoon group.

🌿 We also have drop-in spaces available for our Friday outdoor sessions.

☀️ Our Friday Summer Sessions will be running throughout the school holidays, offering children and young people the opportunity to spend time outdoors, connect with the ponies, explore nature, and take part in a variety of fun activities. PM Canter Coffee club directly for more information! :-)

This time our learning is being inspired by the Lipizzaner horse. Did you know that the breed was created from Andalusian, Arab, Neopolitan and Barb horses? Bringing many skills and talents! Needless to say we have a lot of talented artists in the group!
