As we approach International Nurses Day, we are proud to remember that Coloplastâs story starts with a nurse.
In the early 1950s, nurse Elise Sørensen imagined the first adhesive ostomy bag to help her sister Thora regain confidence after surgery. Her idea inspired Aage and Johanne LouisâHansen to create the worldâs first ostomy bag, a solution that helped Thora, and later thousands more live the life they choose.
Thatâs how Coloplast came to life in 1957: from empathy, innovation, and deep listening to real patient needs. A story that still drives everything we do today.
This week, as we celebrate nurses around the world, we pay tribute to those who, like Elise, transform needs into solutions, empathy into innovation, and care into renewed freedom.
Thank you to all nurses for your dedication, humanity, and daily impact.
At Coloplast, you have inspired us since day one.
