Hello, I’m Jo White

I’m a psychotherapist and clinical hypnotherapist based in Peterborough, and I’m passionate about helping women, children, and teens feel calmer, more confident, and better equipped to navigate life’s ups and downs. My path into therapy grew from both personal experience and professional curiosity. Before training as a therapist, I spent many years as a teacher, a role I loved for its connection, creativity, and the chance to make a difference. But during that time, I also saw how often people carried quiet struggles beneath the surface: anxiety, exhaustion, self-doubt, and a sense of never quite feeling enough. I recognised some of those feelings in myself, too, especially through my own journey into motherhood and the challenges that came with it. That’s what inspired me to retrain and build a career where I could support people in a deeper way, helping them understand their minds, reduce overwhelm, and rediscover the strengths they already hold within. Today, through solution-focused hypnotherapy and psychotherapy, I work with clients experiencing a wide range of challenges, from stress, anxiety, burnout, and low confidence to life transitions such as perimenopause, parenthood, or loss. My approach is gentle but forward-looking; we won’t spend endless time unpicking the past, but instead focus on what’s possible and how to move towards it. Clients often tell me that our sessions feel like a breath of fresh air, a safe, kind space where they can finally relax, make sense of things, and start to feel hopeful again. I bring warmth, empathy, and humour to my work, and I genuinely care about the people I support. Outside of my therapy room, I’m happiest walking in nature, spending time with my family, or enjoying a quiet cup of tea after a busy day. These small moments of stillness remind me why I love this work so much, because finding calm, even in the middle of life’s noise, is possible for all of us. If you’re ready to take that first step towards feeling lighter, calmer, and more like yourself again, I’d love to walk alongside you.

Do you recognise yourself in any of these? Or maybe you see a friend or family member suffering?

Hypnotherapy can be a really effective therapy for parents. Get in touch if you'd like to chat about how it can help. Or share with someone you think might need support.

Nothing changes without a little effort. Hypnotherapy can be hard work, in the best way.

There's talking, exploring, thinking, planning, goal setting, learning, imagining.

It can be relaxing too, it can be a space to be yourself for a while, it can be so many wonderful things.

But it's not sitting back and letting someone else sort your life out for you because only you really have the answers and can do that. I'm there to guide you.

What would you bring to Hypnotherapy?

Have you seen Alison Hammond talking about her panic attack?

Two things stuck out to me, there's no shame in having panic attacks, and the physical symptoms are very real.

It's world menopause month so I think it's also worth mentioning that lots of women experience their first panic attacks during perimenopause, if it isn't something you’ve experienced before then its worth getting checked out like Alison did.

So glad she's speaking openly about it so we can all have these conversations.

Have you ever had a panic attack?

3 things to keep you going through the colder months,

Light, movement and connection.

It's personally so easy for me to loose these if I'm not being intentional about where they're coming from.

I love autumn but I know if these things slip then I start to feel groggy and grumpy!

How are you feeling heading into autumn? Loving or loathing it?

It's mental health awareness day. As a therapist, I forget that everyone else isn't talking about mental health every single day!

Please keep talking after today, ask your friends and family how they're doing, and find someone you trust to talk to if you're struggling.

Your mental health is as important as your physical health, the two overlap and intertwine. You're allowed to ask for help, things can change and get better.

We get told...

'Oh, that's it for the next 18 years'

'It's mum guilt, get used to it'

'It's the baby blues, we all get it'

'Mums worry, it's normal'

'You'll cope'

It was hypnotherapy that helped me understand that this wasn't just 'mum life' it was something I could work on and improve.

You don't have to write your mental health off just because you're a parent.

Being afraid all the time isn't normal, feeling guilty and over thinking every tiny decision isn't your life now, intrusive thoughts don't have to rule your life.

Have you heard any of these? Any you would add?

I love working with new parents because you're the most motivated group to get things done!

You're not just doing it for yourself, you've got an extra family shaped boost, an extra reason to get a handle on the anxiety or overcome the trauma or phobia.

If you think I can help and hypnotherapy is for you, let's chat.

The parents I work with know what's wrong, they want to move forwards quickly and get back to family life.

They don't want to waste 6 months of therapy talking over the problem again and again and not feeling better.

Hypnotherapy is perfect for parents, we can resolve phobias, trauma or anxious thoughts quickly so you're back in a place that feels good and you can focus on the things that matter.

I say it's gentle and restorative, and it is! But that doesn't mean you won't be doing the work in and between sessions. One of my clients this week said it was like a gym session for her mind 🧠💪

Perimenopause had me hibernating all summer!

The physical and mental symptoms just made me want to hide away. Not to mention the fatigue!

The worst thing was I couldn't do the things that I'd be recommending as a hypnotherapist.

Sleep, nourish myself, positive interactions (how do you have positive interactions when you are full of rage?!), take positive action, commit to self hypnosis (i fell asleep), it felt so far away.

Eventually I got so sick of it I DID take some action and I got hrt.

And it's opened up my routes to feeling well again 🎉

Now I'm doing all the things I know make me feel better. That's why I'll never suggest that hypnotherapy is the only thing that will solve your problems.

It helped me feel positive and confident enough to go and ask for hrt and then the hrt gave me my words and sleep and curiosity back.

Hypnotherapy is now moving me forward, but it's teamwork with those hormones!

What was September for you? And what are your best hopes for October?

I'm not making a crappy ai poster for it. My scribbles will have to do!

We're starting a club! It's called The Good Things Hope and Resilience Club. But there will be a healthy dose of angry women coming together to talk, share, make plans for positive action etc. Because I think that's what actually builds hope and resilience in these times.

A nice candle and all the self care in the world can not soothe our souls when we look out to the world right now.

I'm setting up a WhatsApp and we'll put in there when we plan to meet. It'll be nice things like meeting for coffee and cake or heading out for a walk together. It's informal, come along if you're free, if you can't come that's fine, no commitment needed. No money involved. This is just a community for us to be together.

You can still be part of the WhatsApp if you can't make the meet ups, maybe we'll share tips on how we're taking down the patriarchy, what petitions we're signing, how we're talking to our kids about climate change, what books we're reading, that sort of thing.

I thought we should call it a club instead of a group because that's more fun and fun is good in hard times.

Let me know in the comments or dm if you want to join and I'll add you to the WhatsApp.

P.S I mentioned kids, but you do not have to have kids to join!
