✨Giving your child and/or baby choices ✨
Giving babies and children choices helps them build autonomy, confidence, communication skills, and emotional regulation. Even very small choices can have a big developmental impact.

For babies and toddlers choices help them:

* Feel some control in a world where adults decide almost everything
* Practice decision-making
* Reduce frustration and power struggles
* Learn language (“blue cup or red cup?”)
* Build trust and cooperation
*Build self confidence & self esteem

How will I know what my baby/child chooses?
*Babies might look at the one they want
* They might move towards the thing they’ve chosen
*They may point at what they want
*Say what they want by saying a word like ‘Ta ‘ and reaching out towards what they’ve chosen.

How or when can I give my baby/child choices ?
Everyday experiences offer opportunity.
*Ask what colour top they want to wear ( hold up two different coloured tops)
*Ask what snack they would like - offering a choice of two .
*Ask what path they’d like to take on a walk (what way , pointing in two directions)
*Ask what rattle they’d like to hold ( like the photo)
*Ask if they’d like a massage
*Ask if they’d like a cuddle , opening your arms - they can choose to snuggle in/come over to you or not

The list is endless 😉 It’s never to early to start this - it build on mutual respect and valuing your child as an individual ❤️

📸Take photos Tuesday 📸
During ‘Babies Connect’ classes photos are always taken and sent you you at the end of each class 🫶🏻
Why does Anna do this?
Often it’s us behind the camera (unless it’s a selfie🤳 ) so it’s really nice to be IN the photos 😍
Most of the time you would not even realise photos are taken - they are beautiful 😍 You interacting and bonding with your baby /babies 🫶🏻

This dad attended on his dinner breaks so that he could join in with ‘bonding time’ each week ❤️

Dads are welcome in all classes ( during the week and at weekends ). Sundays provide that extra opportunity to get involved as many dads miss out ❤️

😉Sunday Secret 😉
Do you wonder why Anna from ‘Babies Connect’ gets baby’s/children’s attention easily and often many smiles ? Here’s the secret …
She uses “parentese” — the sing-song, exaggerated way to talk to babies & children.
Why does she do this ?
It helps language development far more than regular adult speech or random baby noises.

What ‘parentese’ sounds like;

* Higher pitch
* Slower pace
* Exaggerated vowels
* Clear emotional tone
* Real words and grammar

Why do babies respond to it?

✨It grabs attention. Babies are wired to notice exaggerated human speech. The melody and rhythm help them focus on the speaker.

✨It makes speech sounds easier to distinguish. Stretching vowels and slowing down words helps babies learn the building blocks of language.

✨It supports emotional bonding. The warm tone activates social engagement. Babies learn language best during emotionally connected interactions.

✨It helps babies learn patterns. ‘Parentese’ exaggerates grammar and intonation, this helps babies easily pick up:

* sentence structure
* turn-taking
* conversational rhythm

❣️😍Fantastic Fri-yay😍❣️
Anna from ‘Babies Connect ‘ loves Fridays! She’s surrounded by cute babies and wonderful parents .
Today there were two classes ;
✨Gentle stretches, massage & play
✨Gentle start - massage , gentle stretches and relaxation.
Conversations were flowing, babies were learning, memories were made and bonds were made stronger through touch 🤲
Classes are very baby led so you can relax and join in when your both ready to . No pressure to join in as sometimes it’s nice to just ‘be’, watching , listening and growing together 🫶🏻

Drop in clinic for support with feeding …

Looking for support breastfeeding, bottle feeding or mixed feeding?

Then our Infant Feeding Drop-in Clinics are a great way for you to learn from members of our team, and there is no booking required!

The team are on hand every Friday, 1pm - 2:30pm at the Otters Retreat, City Care Centre, Thorpe Road, Peterborough, PE3 6DB.

The next session is Friday 10 April.

The team will run through topics with you such as latching and breastfeeding support, helping with expressing and pumping and also helping you weighing baby.
