Dear friends heading to Blackpool Magic Convention by the time you read this, you might be packing decks, polishing coins, loading the car, forgetting deodorant, planning which lectures to miss as theres to much going on at once.
We won’t be there this year.
The cost has crept beyond what we can justify. The crowds have grown to a point where wheelchairs simply can’t move safely through the dealer halls.
So while you walk into the Winter Gardens, we’ll be walking into care homes, schools, and day centres.
Magic Touch delivers free live magic shows for people with disabilities and learning disabilities across the UK.
No tickets.No fees.No funding cushion.
Just donated magic and time.
You know that drawer at home. The one with duplicate tricks. Lecture notes you bought twice. Props you meant to use but never did.
For you, they’re surplus.
For our audiences, they become the main event.
I’ve seen a deafblind man feel a silk vanish and gasp.I’ve seen someone with cerebral palsy insist on being the assistant again and wanting to do a bullet catch!
I’ve seen carers stand back and quietly wipe their eyes.
That is where your spare magic goes.
If you’re at Blackpool this week and you have anything you can spare, please pass it to Miraiker's World of Puppets the amazing Phil Flip on our behalf.
One trick can create a full show. One lecture set can train a performer. One bag of unused props can travel the country.
As you head into the convention, enjoy it. Learn. Be inspired.
And if you can, help us keep magic in the hands of people who rarely get to hold it.
Safe travels.
JJ
