And here’s why…Scrolling on your phone *seems* like switching off after a hectic day but you always feel worse afterwards, like a zombie.
You can’t just sit down quietly, the TV is on and your phone is in your hand - you need to have something to do! Multitasking is your default mode.
I learned that this habit was actually me avoiding my feelings, and what I really needed to switch off was a way to wind my mind and body down slowly.
What helped me was finding other enjoyable activities that create a ‘bridge’ at the end of the day. Something that was still engaging but less stimulating than a screen.
Things like reading, puzzles, watering or taking care of plants, colouring or doodling, dancing to songs that make you feel good in your kitchen.
This is why anyone who struggles with traditional meditation often enjoys a sound bath, as it still includes a form of sensory input, which helps you to slowly move from that feeling of restlessness to calm.
Putting down the phone is really hard but I promise it gets easier if you can find a bridge activity that you enjoy.
Do you ever get that post scroll zombie feeling?
