Geneva, here we come!
The countdown to EUBS 2026 is on. From 14–18 September, colleagues from around the world will gather in Geneva to celebrate the 50th Annual Scientific Meeting of EUBS.
We are looking forward not only to the scientific programme, but also to reconnecting with familiar faces, meeting new colleagues and sharing experiences from hyperbaric centres across Europe and beyond.

Did you know?
In HBOT, even your clothes matter.
A hyperbaric session is not just “oxygen in a chamber”. It is a tightly controlled oxygen-enriched clinical environment — and that changes the rules. The European Code of Good Practice warns that one of the greatest accident risks comes from bringing prohibited materials into the chamber. It also notes that elevated oxygen increases ignition risk and can make materials burn faster.
That is why safety starts before treatment begins. The Code specifically includes checks for prohibited items, shoes and clothing, and states that clothing or bedding may become hazardous if synthetic, contaminated or carrying forbidden items. Its recommendation is clear: 100% cotton or other hyperbaric-compatible materials should be used.
In other words: in hyperbaric medicine, safety is not an accessory to treatment.
It is part of the treatment.

HBOT is not a one-size-fits-all treatment.
In Europe, hyperbaric oxygen therapy should be offered for evidence-based indications and delivered under regulated medical conditions. ECHM explicitly advises against promoting so-called “mild HBOT” for wellness, energy, rejuvenation, or for conditions without sufficient clinical evidence.
Their statement also makes one point very clear: any breathing gas delivered in a pressurised chamber is a medical procedure with potential risks, regardless of chamber type, pressure level or marketing language. These chambers are treated as medical products under the EU regulatory framework, and their use should follow recognised standards, trained staffing and proper clinical oversight.
HBOT belongs in regulated medical facilities — not in one-size-fits-all wellness marketing.
Patient safety, proper indications and scientific evidence come first.

Worth reading.

A 2025 long-term follow-up of the RICH-ART trial adds important evidence on hyperbaric oxygen therapy for chronic radiation-induced cystitis.
In patients treated with HBOT, urinary symptom improvement was sustained over time: mean EPIC urinary total scores improved by 18.0 points at 6 months and remained improved by 19.1 points at 5 years. In total, 68.6% of patients met the study’s responder definition.
This matters because chronic radiation-induced cystitis can substantially affect quality of life, and long-term data have been one of the key gaps in the evidence base.
The 5-year follow-up supports HBOT as a relevant therapeutic option for selected patients with chronic radiation-induced bladder injury, while also highlighting the need for further research on optimal protocols, patient selection, predictive markers, and health-economic impact.

This week, we are introducing Aneta Miszewska, EBAss local representative in Poland.
Aneta combines experience in hyperbaric, anaesthesiology and intensive care nursing with an ongoing commitment to professional development. Her work connects clinical practice, academic teaching and professional education, supporting the continued growth of hyperbaric nursing in Poland.
Alongside her academic role at the Medical University of Gdańsk, she also works clinically at the Department of Hyperbaric Medicine and Sea Rescue at the University Centre for Maritime and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia.
W tym tygodniu przedstawiamy Anetę Miszewską, lokalną reprezentantkę EBAss w Polsce.
Aneta łączy doświadczenie w pielęgniarstwie hiperbarycznym, anestezjologicznym i intensywnej opiece z ciągłym zaangażowaniem w rozwój zawodowy. Jej praca obejmuje praktykę kliniczną, działalność akademicką oraz edukację zawodową, wspierając dalszy rozwój pielęgniarstwa hiperbarycznego w Polsce.
