🎉 Legs Matter Week 2026 starts today!

Across the UK, too many people are still experiencing avoidable pain, delayed healing, preventable deterioration and escalating care needs linked to poor lower limb care.

But better care is possible.

This year's theme, It doesn't have to be this way, is about moving from awareness to action.

Throughout the week we'll be sharing resources, educational events, inspiring examples of best practice and practical tools to help drive the implementation of guideline-based lower limb care.

Whether you're a healthcare professional, patient, carer, organisation or supporter, there are lots of ways to get involved.

Accepting New Patients

Hello everyone,

I am a HCPC Registered and fully insured podiatrist based in Pontefract town centre at my clinic.
In addition to clinic appointments, I also offer home visits, nursing home visits, and hospital bedside visits for patients who are unable to attend the clinic.

Having previously worked within the NHS, I now dedicate my full time to providing high-quality podiatry care through my private practice. While my specialist interests include wound care and nail surgery, I am experienced in all aspects of podiatry and foot health.

Treatments available include:

* Ingrowing toenail treatment

Hi all,

Hope you are all ok and well.

This heat has been intense and it's got me thinking about hydration and how this affects your feet.

Have you been drinking enough in this heat?

Staying hydrated helps your feet in several ways because your feet contain skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and blood vessels that all depend on adequate fluid balance.

Some benefits include:

1. Healthier skin: Proper hydration helps maintain skin elasticity and can reduce dryness, cracking, and roughness on the feet, especially around the heels.

2.Better circulation: Adequate fluid intake supports blood volume and circulation, helping deliver oxygen and nutrients to foot tissues.

3.Joint support: Water is a major component of the fluid that lubricates joints. Staying hydrated can help joints in the feet move more comfortably.

4.Muscle function: Dehydration can contribute to muscle cramps and fatigue, including in the feet and calves.

5.Reduced swelling risk in some cases: Good hydration helps the body regulate fluid balance. While swelling can have many causes, dehydration can sometimes lead the body to retain fluid.

6.Tissue recovery: Hydration supports normal healing and recovery processes after standing, walking, running, or exercise.

It's important to note that drinking more water won't directly cure foot problems such as bunions, plantar fasciitis, nerve issues, or infections, but it can support overall foot health and comfort.

A practical guideline is to drink fluids regularly throughout the day and increase intake during hot weather, exercise, or periods of heavy sweating.

If you frequently experience foot swelling, severe cramping, numbness, or persistent pain, it may be worth discussing with a healthcare professional, as those symptoms can have causes beyond hydration.
