When I set up this business I promised myself I would always treat in my patients best interest, not in my business’ best interest.
I’ve always hated private practice because I feel all healthcare should be free, accessible to all, in a timely manner, and you shouldn’t have to pay privately to get that care. I hated the idea of seeing people as £s and pushing them to return to see me again.
That’s why reducing my time in the NHS to set up this clinic was a difficult decision, but being able to do things my own way made that a lot easier.
For me, success isn’t about booking as many appointments as possible. It’s about actually helping people. If you haven’t returned for a follow up, it means I’ve done a good (or really really bad) job in the initial assessment to give you the support and guidance you need to manage your symptoms on your own. This is the goal. I want behaviour change and longevity because you shouldn’t need to return for regular appointments forever more.
That’s why I don’t routinely ask everyone to book a follow-up appointment. If I genuinely think you’ll benefit from one, I’ll explain why. But if I feel you have everything you need to continue on your own, I’ll tell you that too.
I never want anyone to feel pressured into coming back. My goal is for you to leave feeling informed, empowered, and in control of your symptoms—not dependent on ongoing appointments.
Of course, if you have questions, your symptoms change, or you simply want some extra support, my door is always open and I LOVE seeing my follow up patients.
Helping people get better is, and always will be, the reason I started this business. No I can’t do this free of charge, and yes I need to charge the going rate (although I try not to) because at the end of the day I too have bills to pay. However, the day this becomes all about profit for me will be the day I close the doors | Restore Pelvic Physiotherapy
