What a wonderful way to start the new academic year by sharing a new piece of research: a randomised controlled trial by Chen et al. (2025) exploring the effectiveness of Bowen Therapy for fibromyalgia.

The objective was to determine whether Bowen therapy can help alleviate pain, enhance functional capacity, reduce sleep and mood disturbances, and improve overall quality of life.

The study followed 78 participants split into two groups: one receiving eight sessions of Bowen therapy over 12 weeks alongside conventional care, and a control group continuing conventional care alone.

Positive Highlights & Percentage Changes
Lower Limb Endurance: An approximate 66.7% increase in successful stands from a baseline mean of 6 to 10 post-treatment, with benefits sustained for 12 weeks.

Dominant Arm Endurance: An approximate 54.5% increase in successful arm curls from a baseline mean of 11 to 17 post-treatment.

Non-Dominant Arm Endurance: An approximate 40.0% increase in successful curls from a baseline mean of 10 to 14 post-treatment.

Reduced Activity Interference: An approximate 17.5% reduction on the Brief Pain Inventory interference scale, dropping from a baseline mean of 5.7 to 4.7.

Mental Health-Related Quality of Life: An approximate 15.9% improvement in SF-36 Mental Component Summary scores, rising from a baseline mean of 33.3 to 38.6.

Safety: No serious adverse events or safety concerns were reported.

It is encouraging to see greater insight into how bodywork supports those navigating chronic conditions. We would love to hear from you if this was relevant for you.

The organiser of the Zagreb "Celebrating Bowen" conference of 2026 Ozana Pope-Gajic talks about how she moved from using physiotherapy as her main approach to dealing with musculoskeletal issues to almost exclusively using Bowen Technique in her practice because the results spoke for themselves.

Bowen Technique has an increasing number of practitioners who were initially trained in physiotherapy who now use Bowen Technique as their primary modality.

Physiotherapist and Bowen Practitioner Darko Bilic is talking here about the importance of us looking at the whole-body approach to health rather than focusing on just the parts, and how this is a limiting approach to health.
He'd like to see all health and medical training having a better global view of body health rather than being so atomised.

What are your thoughts on this?

If you'd like to see the whole interview with Darko, where he gives some great hints about the outcomes of his PhD research on ankle injuries and Bowen Technique, all on out YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/Q3djm1RcuPo

Hi everyone,

Something special for you all today: the first panel interview we have done with a group of Bowen Teachers, from different schools and perspectives, all coming together to talk about how Bowen Technique is an AI proof career.

There is significant concern from many people in the world that AI will take a lot of jobs. There are a lot of graduates from various courses that now fear their studies may be obsolete within a few years, and a lot of young people are despondent about the future job market.

Yet all of us as Bowen practitioners know that we have a career for life, one that offers great meaning and purpose, deep satisfaction for offering a great service to our communities and a significant amount of continued professional development, as all of the teachers on the interview attest to.

So dive in and enjoy this exploration of Bowen Technique as a career solution to the changing and uncertain future of careers.

We'd love to hear your thoughts on this as well

The wonderful Anne Schubert is talking about how Bowen can make changes in the body in places that weren't obviously related to trauma responses, and how she uses a genuine curiosity in how the body responds as a way to motivate her students in Mind/Body Bowen.

Anne talks about the relationships she has found that map beautifully into the kinesiology system "Touch for Health" where we can see the correlations into the body from various emotions, due to their relationship to the acupuncture channels.

Have you had experiences of this?

We'd love to hear about them below.

Physiotherapist and Bowen Teacher Georgi Ilchev is talking about how Bowen can successfully treat lumbar disc herniations without the need for surgery. He talks about how Bowen can stabilise the spine and help it restore alignment to support the body in healing itself.

Have you seen similar results in your practice?
Maybe you have experienced Bowen helping significantly in conditions that are set to have surgery.

We'd love to know

The great Dr Romney Smeeton is talking about developing our intuition and tapping into the inner voice that allows us to deepen our practice and how intuition and experience go hand in hand.

How have you experienced this developing in your own practice?

You can see the full interview with Romney in two parts, starting here: https://youtu.be/kCV_cIaCAkg

It's time for another episode in the BTPA podcast

Today we're going to be talking to Anneke Loode, who has been a qualified physio since 1991 and a Bowen therapist since about 2001.

She started her own Bowen School for Healthcare Professionals in around 2003 and has been working as an EMMETT instructor since 2013, after starting to practice that in 2007.

We had a really interesting talk with her today about integrating Bowen, Physiotherapy and Emmett techniques and why she developed the work in the way she did and how she went into teaching and was a big part of developing Bowen in Eastern Europe as well as in Croatia, Slovenia, Romania and other places, and how her work is inspired by that desire to want to help people get better. We had a really interesting conversation. I hope you enjoy it.
