β€œI have a complex history of fatigue, heavy metals, mould and post-viral fatigue. I caught Covid and had a major relapse; experiencing anxiety, insomnia and was highly reactive to relaxation practises. After 11 weeks in the Nurturing Resilience Membership my anxiety is pretty much gone and I am able to relax and better access a healing state.”

When it comes to healing journeys, Ruth has definitely been on an "adventure". It started 10 years ago with general fatigue and lack of help from the traditional medical model.

Taking a more nutritional approach Ruth discovered heavy metals and candida antibodies but then ended up having a brain haemorrhage and a craniotomy, losing half her vision. But that was not all...

Recently I shared that I did my longest hike (21km / 6 hours) since I was ill.

Many of you expressed an interest in what I do to support my body through these physical challenges.

Being able to challenge your body physically is built in the trenches of day to day self care. But here are some tips and considerations if you feel ready to take on a bigger physical expansion.

I always get asked questions about the Cyrex Tests so here is some more information. Cyrex Testing is a US based laboratory that we have access to here in the UK. I have also had clients in Europe and Australia access their testing regime.

They are a private testing company so you will pay out of pocket for their tests and this needs to be done through an appropriately qualified practitioner e.g. Nutritional Therapist, Functional Medicine Practitioner or Doctor.

The tests can be a huge investment but I have found them very helpful in some cases to gain more clarity around what is actually going on - especially if there is a family history of Autoimmunity.

For those experiencing Long Covid, many are finding it insightful to test antibodies to Angiotensin II Type 1 receptor (AT1R), Beta1-adrenergic receptor (b1-AdR), Beta2-adrenergic receptor (b1-AdR), Endothelin Receptor, subtype A (ETAR), Muscarinic choline receptor 3 (M3R) and Muscarinic choline receptor 4 (M4R).

In this episode, Anna explores why the body sometimes responds positively to movement β€” not because it improves fitness, but because it can help the nervous system process activation and return toward regulation.

This episode also introduces the idea that movement can support the body in discharging and organising sympathetic activation, which can reduce internal agitation and support nervous system balance.

How it feels when you’re first diagnosed with ME/CFS or a complex fatigue condition...vs How it feels when you realise that you can positively change your health, stabilise and improve your energy and build a meaning life!

There are some schools of thought that suggest poorly functioning adrenal glands could be an underlying cause in chronic fatigue. Although imbalanced adrenal function could be part of the complex web of fatigue, it is more likely to be a piece of the puzzle than the whole puzzle itself.

That being said, when it comes to recovering energy and vitality, there is seldom one magic solution. Instead, improvements happen when we support the body as a whole. Part of that support may include supporting the adrenal glands.

I’ve created this blog to explain:

- How the adrenal glands work
- Why they are important for health
- How to know if yours are imbalanced
- How you can support both hypo- and hyper adrenal function

You can find the full blog on my website, just follow the link in my bio @β€Œanna_marsh_nutrition, or comment β€œLEARN” and we’ll send you the link to the full blog where you can read all the details and more specific recommendations not covered here. 🩷

For many people with fatigue conditions, movement has become associated with risk.

You may have experienced:

crashes after exercise

worsening symptoms

fear of doing too much

So it makes sense if your body now feels cautious around movement.

But there’s an important distinction that often gets missed:

Movement for fitness is not the same as movement for nervous system regulation.

And the body responds very differently to each.

Movement can feel like a complicated topic for people living with chronic fatigue conditions.

Many people have been told to exercise more.
Others have experienced crashes after pushing too hard.
And over time, movement itself can start to feel risky.

But something interesting often emerges during recovery.

Certain types of gentle, rhythmic movement can actually help the nervous system settle.

I was asked this question via a DM and this was my answer.

I wanted to highlight here in the caption that I am not saying that we should necessarily embrace an unhealthy body weight that is contributing to health issues.

What I am encouraging is that healing from a chronic illness like CFS/ME is a big deal and we cannot focus on everything at once.

If someone has a pattern where they have used food and exercise to cope with the dysregulation within their nervous system and they continue to try to use these tools, this may stall or sabotage fatigue recovery.

This is a part that is asking to be healed and therefore healing from CFS/ME will come hand and hand with broadening the coping mechanisms which feel available.

As we work on our health generally, this will likely encourage a healthy body weight more specifically.

However, weight loss in most cases should not be the primary goal.

Its a complex issue so I welcome your thoughts on this.

Understanding the difference between a true chronic fatigue relapse and a temporary recalibration can reduce a huge amount of fear and help people respond more calmly when fluctuations occur: we scale back and see if the system settles again when we scale back.
