From a glass of water, a chat with a friend, or a comfortable space, we can all help respect the rights of mums to breastfeed anytime, anywhere.

✨ Scottish Breastfeeding Week✨

Public Health Scotland publishes an annual report on Infant Feeding in Scotland.

Collecting data on breastfeeding is important for Scotland as a nation so we can track progress over time, understand what is working for families, where improvements are needed and ensure families receive the best possible support.

πŸ’œ 69% of babies in Scotland were breastfed for at least some time after their birth, compared to 63% in 2016/17.

πŸ’œ For the first time since data began in 2002, more than half (51%) of babies in Scotland are being breastfed or receiving breastmilk at 6-8 weeks of age.

πŸ’œ By the age of 13-15 months, 21.5% of babies in Scotland are breastfed or receiving breastmilk.

Inequalities in breastfeeding have been reducing over the past 10 years - this is because recent increases in breastfeeding have been most marked among those living in more deprived areas.

The Breastfeeding Network strives to provide accessible, non-judgemental support and evidence-based information to ALL mums and families who need us.

✨ Sunscreen and Breastfeeding ✨

With record-breaking heat expected this week, here's a little reminder that you can use sunscreen as normal while breastfeeding

🌞 Staying safe in the sun:

Most of us don't apply enough sunscreen. Around 6 to 8 teaspoons is the recommended amount to cover your whole body.

For babies under 6 months, sunscreen isn't recommended - keeping them in the shade and out of direct sunlight is the best way to protect them.

For babies 6 months and over, and older children, a sunscreen of at least SPF 30 is recommended, and they should spend the hottest part of the day - usually between 11am and 3pm - in the shade.

Breastfed babies under 6 months do not need extra water - they can be breastfed as many times as they need. If you're bottle feeding, your baby can have small sips of cooled boiled water as they need it.

Babies over 6 months should be offered milk or water with meals. In hot weather, you can offer some extra water outside of mealtimes.
.. And don't forget to keep yourself hydrated!

Laura Kenny finished 26.2 miles at the London Marathon yesterday – and then went straight back to mum life, feeding her daughter!

The Olympic champion was running for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust and kept it very real about the experience: β€˜Not even going to pretend I enjoyed it because I absolutely did not!’. Yet she still managed to finish in an impressive 3 hours 45 mins!
