I overheard a conversation in A&E yesterday that honestly blew my mind.
A group of women were comparing how long they had taken Mounjaro, their doses, what they could still eat and drink, and how unwell they felt afterwards.
I’ll put some of the actual comments I heard below.
It sounded as though becoming unwell was something to celebrate because they could eat and drink whatever they wanted and still lose weight.
Before anyone jumps on me, I am not against medical weight loss.
These medicines can help some people when prescribed safely and combined with changes to diet, activity and behaviour.
But they are not risk-free, suitable for everyone or intended to replace nutrition and healthier habits. They should be prescribed and monitored by a qualified healthcare professional.
What concerns me is the growing belief that the jabbies do all the work.
Nutrition, hydration, movement and support still matter.
I have been a weight-loss Consultant for 13 years. I believe almost any sensible plan can work when followed consistently.
For years, The 1:1 Diet was called “extreme” because it offered structure, nutritionally formulated products, portion control and accountability.
Yet taking medication, eating poorly, drinking heavily and accepting feeling unwell for days is now becoming normalised.
How did we become the extreme option?
These medicines can be effective tools, but they are not a cure for obesity.
Your body still needs protein, vitamins, minerals, fibre and fluids. It needs movement to help protect muscle. Your mind needs support to build healthier habits.
The 1:1 Diet, when followed properly with a trained Consultant, remains one of the most cost-effective structured ways I know to lose weight with nutrition, support and accountability.
Medical weight loss may quieten the food noise, but it cannot build your habits for you.
Whatever tool you choose, use it to improve your health, not simply to see what you can “get away with.”
