I saw this quiz. It told me to take a point for everything I've never done. I think I might be quite old because I didn't get a single point. It say's have you ever used a fax machine, I remember when the first one's came in and you had to change the roll and if you put them too near a heat source they'd turn completely black. I've also used a telex machine.

I’ve been following a creator on here, Rebecca Parsons. She does skits showing what abusive relationships look like and it’s probably as close to life as I’ve ever seen.

I’ve been in relationships without the punches, with the punches and one with or two with a different sort of abuse.

The one thing they all have in common is the reaction. The sense of a change in mood and the flinch, bracing yourself for what’s coming. Having to take on the role of soother, of comforter but not too much because then you’re smothering them and obviously trying to make up for some imagined transgression which then fuels their anger even more.

We learn to shrink, to take up as little space as possible because to be seen is dangerous, to be noticed even when the need to be noticed is strong within makes us overcompensate to give more than we ever should and to put our own needs on hold just to quiet the beast.

They say ‘Why does she stay?’ She stays because it’s not always like that. She stays because she’s told herself that if he doesn’t stop she’s leaving him next week and then, as if by magic, he shows the person she fell in love with and the fear and the need to run subside and she’s got the man she loves back. Then he slips, recovers, stabilises, slips, recovers stabilises, slips, slips recovers, slips, slips, slips, recov-slips and the beast is back. The cycle repeats but she stays because she knows he’s in there somewhere and if she can only be good enough he’ll come back. It doesn’t end until she can see that that monster is real and the man she fell in love with was the illusion.

I used to love rom-coms.

Boy meets girl.

Boy is a bit of a dipstick.

Boy loses girl.

Boy realises she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to him and chases after her.

Roll credits.

These days they drive me mad.

Take How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. The closing scenes.

Andie is on her way to the airport for what sounds like her dream job. A chance to write the things she’s been trying to write for the entire film.

Then Ben turns up on his motorbike and stops her.

And every time I watch it, I’m shouting at the TV:

“GET ON THE PLANE, ANDIE.”

Not because I don’t want her to have the relationship, because I don’t understand why the relationship and the dream job are presented as a choice.

Maybe that’s one of the biggest shifts I’ve noticed in myself over the years.

I no longer automatically see sacrifice as romantic.

I want the woman to get the relationship and the career.

The love and the opportunity.

The family and herself.

Perhaps that’s what happens when you stop seeing women as supporting characters in their own lives.

Why can’t we have it all? Why is the relationship seen as the prize?

I’m intrigued to know if it’s just me so please drop me your thoughts below

So, on Saturday 4th July, I will be at Womanifest in Northwich, Cheshire delivering a workshop called The Forgotten Self. It's based on my Forgotten Self Oracle deck and I'm really excited.

I have four tickets left, not just for my workshop but for ALL of this! 👇 It's a two day ticket for £70. The full price tickets on the website are currently selling for £131.15 and there are limited day tickets priced at £76.15. Drop me a DM if you're interested in getting a ticket. There's a firewalk and cold water dip (extra cost). There's a shopping village, a neon party on Saturday night. I cannot wait! 8 weeks and 3 days!!!!

Personally I need to change this from 40s to 50s but how relatable is this? I love it

You are not too much.

Your depth, passion, and feeling are not flaws — they are
your brilliance.

If someone couldn’t handle the fullness of you, it says more
about their limits than your worth.
