After many years of service, our original Jack Ellis body armour was finally ready to retire — the fading colours told their own story. Those vests were perfect for our needs, with practical pockets, radio holders, and flexible side panels that supported cycling and patient care 🩺

When Jack Ellis ceased manufacturing, finding a replacement became a real challenge. It’s hard to improve on something that already works so well. Fortunately, Defence Composites stepped in and saved the day. After several meetings, emails, and test fittings, we now have our brand‑new CRU body armour 🚲

We debuted the new kit at The Great Yorkshire Show and the London T100, and it has already proven itself. Purpose‑shaped for riding, lightweight, and designed exactly with our operational needs in mind — it’s everything we hoped for.

Defence Composites were phenomenal to work with from start to finish, producing a product designed entirely with the wearer’s needs in mind 💯

Last week marked our 5th year covering the London T100 Triathlon, and the atmosphere just keeps growing. Some incredible athletes battled the heat ☀️ and delivered performances that were unreal to witness. Always amazing to watch the speed of the Elite athletes, especially round some of those tight turns 🚲

Riding through the Silvertown Tunnel multiple times while covering the bike route was a pretty unique experience 😎

Early starts are never easy, but working with such a brilliant team makes that 4:30am wake‑up feel a whole lot lighter 🚑

From the Ambulance crews, Medical Center, Med point out on course, Sports Medics team and the CRU team we delivered a great service and definitely one for the books again next year 🩺🩹

🔔 Great Yorkshire Show: Days 3 & 4 Round-Up ✨

Never quite got the chance to wrap up the last couple of days at the Great Yorkshire Show — a mix of late finishes, being busier than ever, and our social battery tapping out by the end 😅

Normally we take our annual GYS flower pictures at the start of the week, it took us till the last day to get chance for them, we even went in early just to be sure 📸

Thursday ended up being the busiest day on record for the medical team at the show. The sunshine definitely had a lot to answer for, but the nature of the show always brings its fair share of incidents: animal-related injuries, burns, falls and trips, allergic reations, plus those unexpected emergency illnesses that seem to appear out of nowhere 🩹🩺

But just like that the show week came to an end, the medical team was superb as always, looking forward to doing it all again in 2027 for our 16th year at the show 🚲 🚑

Day 2 really kicked off once that sun decided to make an appearance ☀️ It’s always the same at big shows like this — one minute you’re cruising, the next it’s like someone hit the “activate chaos” button and suddenly every walkway, livestock lane, and unshaded corner becomes a hotspot.

The last seven‑hour surge we just powered through… that’s the kind of stretch that tests stamina, the bikes’ agility, and everyone’s ability to stay sharp when the pace refuses to slow. And honestly, it’s exactly where the bikes prove their worth — weaving through crowds, slipping past bottlenecks, getting to patients long before an ambulance could even think about reaching them.

Day 2 complete ✅️ but there was time to quickly pet a Highland cow 🐂

The bike is officially turning one soon 🥳
Which means service day 🔧 — and it’s now fully checked over and ready for a week of hard graft as the trusty workhorse it is 🐎

Pickering's Bikes in Swadlincote were the people for the job and yes their bike lift took the weight of the bike 😅

Brilliant service, super friendly, and we'll 100% be using them again! So go check them out if you’re in the area 🚲

Next Monday we head up to Yorkshire to prepare for one of our favourite events of the year — The Great Yorkshire Show. We’ve been covering this event on the bikes for 15 years, working alongside some incredible people 🚲

It’s a place that holds real sentimental value for us; the Showground is where the bikes have seen their biggest developments and where their purpose has truly been shaped ✂️🪛

The Great Yorkshire Showground spans 250 acres of outdoor space, with an additional 11,728 m² of indoor event areas, two exposition halls, and two covered pavilions. With the capacity to welcome more than 45,000 visitors per day, movement for ambulances is often restricted due to crowd density, livestock, animal movement, and narrow walkways 🚑

This is exactly where the bikes come into their own — providing rapid access, agility, and a vital medical presence in areas traditional vehicles simply can’t reach. They’ve become an essential asset to the medical team, and we’re proud of the role they play every year 🩺

This picture shows just a snippet over the last 6 years (minus 2020 due to covid) 📸

It is that time again, we have been stupidly busy with our day jobs, and also studying, so the page has suffered a little. There is some big events coming up. We were asked to cover the Manchester City Home coming parade, but was already working (ahhhhh!)🤯

Nevertheless, in a few weeks we have our regular trip to Harrogate for The Great Yorkshire Show. Then at the end of July The London T100 see us back there.

Had a few training rides to make sure health and stamina are still what they should be.
There will definitely be more content, so tell your friends to jump on the page give it a follow, as we head for a busy and exciting time. I'm going to be putting some blogs on here too. As always thank you to .uk
