To celebrate Carers Week (8–14 June) and Portsmouth 100, the Portsmouth Carers Centre are inviting local businesses, organisations, groups and teams to pledge their support for unpaid carers πŸ’™

At Aster, we pledge to:
β€œRecognise, support and value carers by listening to what matters most to them, helping them access the right support, and working together to make Portsmouth a more carer-friendly community.”

We'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Portsmouth Carers Centre for the incredible work they do every day to support unpaid carers across our community. πŸ’™

Local businesses and services play an important role in building carer friendly communities by making everyday places more understanding, flexible, and accessible for people with caring responsibilities. Through staff awareness, flexible service delivery, inclusive policies, and visible support for carers, they can reduce practical barriers and create welcoming environments where carers feel recognised and respected.

By working in partnership with local carers’ support organisations and community services, local businesses and services can help to raise awareness, strengthen local networks, and contribute to communities where carers are supported to participate fully in daily life.

We’re proud to share the pledge from Aster Care:
πŸ“£ β€œRecognise, support, and value carers by listening to what matters to them, helping them find the right support, and working together to make Portsmouth a more carer-friendly community.”

πŸ’‘ Small actions really do make a big difference.

πŸ“Έ If you'd like to create your pledge for Portsmouth Carers, take a photo with your team, and send it to us to be featured.

πŸ‘‰ Find pledge boards and more information here:

Together, we can make Portsmouth a place where carers feel recognised, valued and supported.

πŸ’œ Carers Week 2026: Building Carer Friendly Communities πŸ’œ

This year's Carers Week theme, Building Carer Friendly Communities, highlights the importance of creating places where unpaid carers feel recognised, valued, supported, and connected.

Carers play a vital role in our communities, often putting the needs of others before their own. By working together, we can help ensure carers have access to the support, understanding, and opportunities they need to thrive.

To celebrate Carers Week, we would like to invite carers and those they care for to join us for our Coffee & Company Afternoon:

πŸ“… Friday 26th June
πŸ• 1:00pm – 3:00pm
β˜• Refreshments and Cake provided
🀝 A chance to meet others, share experiences, and enjoy good company

Everyone is welcome.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Do you need a break?

Caring for a loved one takes love and dedication, but supporting someone with dementia or other long-term conditions can be physically and emotionally challenging.

Without regular breaks, many carers experience burnout, stress, and fatigue β€” and that can make caring even harder.

That’s why it’s important to Take a Break. It gives carers time to:
Rest and recharge mentally
Catch up on sleep
Attend their own appointments
Spend time with family and friends
And while carers take time to recharge, their loved ones continue to receive safe, supportive care and company from a friendly, trusted companion.

πŸ’™ You don’t have to do it all alone.
If you’re caring for someone at home and need support, we’re here to help.
Message us today to find out more about our Take a Break Service

Week Reflection & Ongoing Support

As Mental Health Awareness Week comes to an end, the conversation should not stop here.
Mental health matters every day of the year, and together we can continue building a culture of kindness, understanding, and support.
At Aster Care, we remain committed to supporting wellbeing within our community and beyond. πŸ’š

Community & Connecting with others

Connection is so important for mental wellbeing.
Whether it’s a phone call, a visit, or spending time together, staying connected can help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.
This weekend, take a moment to check in with someone you care about. πŸ’š

Mental Health Whilst Working in Care

Working in care can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be emotionally demanding.
This week, we want to recognise and thank all carers, support workers, and healthcare professionals for the compassion and dedication they show every day.
Remember: caring for your own mental health is just as important as caring for others. πŸ’š

Thank you to everyone who came to our Christmas Coffee Morning Fundraiser on 5th December. We hold these as an opportunity to get people together, have coffee and cake, attempt the obligatory themed quiz (this one all about Christmas!), and have a raffle so people can get themselves, or others, a gift, and raise money for a designated charity.
A big thank you to Elaine Rowland who put a tremendous effort in to make handmade gifts to sell, and to all those who donated gifts for the raffle, including those that couldn't make it.
We raised Β£100 for the Hillside Animal Sanctuary, and so thank you to all who donated πŸ™‚
