I feel like I owe something of an explanation to all of my clients ~ both those who have been with me for years and those who have only recently stepped through the doors of Twin Throne Tattoo. For the last year, I havenβt really been myself. Losing my wife in February, after everything we had already been through with our separation the year before, has affected me in ways I never imagined possible. I havenβt been myself as a friend, as a tattoo artist, as a studio owner, or simply as a man. I lost my ambition, my excitement, my love for things I once cared so deeply about, and for a long time I couldnβt see any future for myself or for Twin Throne.
Iβve cried every single day for the last eight months, the word βheartbrokenβ isnβt enough to use and over the last couple of weeks I found myself in an incredibly dark place, having thoughts of ending everything. I felt guilty for even trying to make myself happy, as though I didnβt deserve to feel good again. Very recently, I finally had a deep and brutally honest conversation with someone close to me about how Iβve been feeling and where my head had got to. We broke everything down piece by piece, and for the first time in a long time I felt a sense of relief. More importantly, I felt something I havenβt felt for a long time β excitement. Excitement to make goals, to rebuild, to create, to tattoo, to grow, and to see what I can make of the future. I know Iβm not suddenly fixed, and I know grief doesnβt disappear overnight, but I want to start moving forward instead of simply existing. I want to build myself back up, and I want to build Twin Throne back up with me.
To everyone who has continued to support me, booked with me, checked in on me, or simply walked through the doors despite me not being the person I once was ~ thank you. It means more than I can put into words.
This is me being honest about where Iβve been, but also making a decision about where I want to go from here. Iβm ready to start building again.
Love, GH
