The Paradox of the Therapeutic Relationship:

We frequently encounter commentary on therapeutic relationships from both clients and therapists.

Clients may experience profound grief at the end of therapy, particularly following long-term work and deep trauma processing, reflecting the loss of a relationship experienced as deeply meaningful and emotionally significant.

Therapists often respond that the relationship mattered, that the care was genuine, that the client will be held in mind, and that the boundaries are precisely what made the relationship safe.

All of this sits around one core tension:
The therapeutic relationship is real within its context, yet it is not and should not become a conventional relationship once therapy ends.

Meet Amber - Walking the 5K this Saturday for Toucan Diversity

The Great South Run is one of Portsmouth's most iconic events, and we love the energy and excitement it brings to our city. But this year, we want to shine a spotlight on something truly different.

Amber is an ambulatory wheelchair user and one of Toucan Diversity's most valued volunteers. For months, she has been quietly and determinedly working on her fitness — pushing herself a little further every single day to build her strength and stamina, with one goal in mind: to walk the 5K on Saturday for Team Toucan.

We honestly could not be more proud of her.
