There was a very special visitor at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital yesterday 🐾

Dr Riggs, our therapy dog, was out and about meeting staff and patients, offering comfort, smiles and a welcome boost to wellbeing.

Sometimes the smallest visits can make the biggest difference 💙

Today marks the fifth National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day, providing an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate the vital contribution of our Estates and Facilities (E&F) colleagues across One LSC.

Our Estates and Facilities teams are truly the backbone of every organisation. Their commitment, professionalism and dedication ensure that our wards and departments operate safely, efficiently and effectively every single day.

This year has presented particular challenges for our E&F workforce, not least through the transition into One LSC and the significant change this has brought. Despite this, colleagues have continued to demonstrate resilience, adaptability and an unwavering focus on supporting patient care.

From portering and car parking to medical engineering, waste management, linen services, transport and accommodation; from catering, administration and maintenance to estates management, domestic services, general office and security - every role plays a critical part in delivering high-quality care.

As we recognise this national day, we also acknowledge the essential role our E&F colleagues play in improving services and supporting the wellbeing of our patients and staff across our sites.

Thank you to all our Estates and Facilities colleagues for your continued commitment, professionalism, and invaluable contribution.

A nationally recognised respiratory training course led by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals has reached an impressive milestone – celebrating 20 years of educating clinicians from across the UK and around the world.

The British Thoracic Society Interventional Bronchoscopy / Thoracoscopy Short Course has now trained more than 600 doctors in advanced respiratory procedures, helping improve services and patient care across the NHS and beyond.

Delivered in partnership with the BTS and supported by a dedicated multidisciplinary team, the course continues to equip clinicians with the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver safer, more effective care.

Thank you so much to Sarah Schofield, of Charnock Richard, who has raised an amazing total of £5,588 for us with support from her employer Leyland Trucks and their charitable arm Leyland Trucks Helping Hand 🙌❤

Sarah chose to fundraise in thanks for treatment her husband Michael is receiving at the Rosemere Cancer Centre here at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Michael was diagnosed with Stage 3 bowel cancer last year. Since then, Sarah’s departmental colleagues have organised a bake sale, which raised £535.25, and Sarah took part in our annual Walk in the Dark from Chorley Hospital to Royal Preston Hospital back in April.

Her fantastic total was made up of donations to her online donation page for her part in the walk by friends, family, and a generous contribution by Leyland Trucks, along with the bake sale funds 🤗

Sarah said: “Thank you to everyone who has supported me in my fundraising for Rosemere Cancer Foundation. My work colleagues have been especially generous.”

Thanks so much for your support, Sarah - the funds will help to make such a difference for local cancer patients cared for here at the regional cancer centre, and across Lancashire and the South Lakes! 🙏

It's Volunteers Week and Catherine Gregory, our Deputy Director of Nursing, Midwifery and AHPs has spent the afternoon with some of the wonderful volunteers who manage the Rosemere Cancer Centre Cafe.

Between them, cafe volunteers Glynis, Dorothy and Bernice have devoted an incredible 43 years' service.

Our volunteers do an amazing job supporting our patients, staff and local communities - and we want to say a big thank you to each and every one of our wonderful volunteers.
