The hardest safeguarding cases rarely begin with evidence.
They begin with discomfort.
A pause that feels unusual.
A silence that lingers too long.
A behaviour change nobody else seems to notice.
Most people keep looking for obvious signs.
But the reality is…
by the time abuse becomes obvious,
it has usually been happening for a while.
That’s why safeguarding is not just procedure.
It’s judgement.
Attention.
Courage.
And the willingness to trust your instincts before you have certainty.
Because sometimes the person most at risk in the room…
…is the person saying the least.
