25th May 2026 is National Wine Day. This annual celebration is a popular, informal day dedicated to enjoying, sharing, and discovering new wines, often marked by special wine tastings or sampling a new wine at home. We at the Mary How Trust appreciate that no alcohol is good for you so perhaps this day can be celebrated by finding a new non-alcoholic wine to share with friends and family.

Make the most of tomorrow’s bank holiday with family and friends, and if the weather is good, why not embrace the outdoors with a picnic in the park, woodland walks or a BBQ in the garden. Remember to pack your sunscreen and sunglasses if the weather is warm and sunny and maybe include some waterproofs, just in case. Whatever the weather, enjoy an outdoor adventure with some healthy fresh air.

National Lucky Penny Day is celebrated annually on 23rd May, including in the UK. It is a day dedicated to the superstition that finding a penny, particularly heads-up, brings good luck, often celebrated by searching for pennies, performing acts of kindness, or engaging in fun activities. Why not turn a fun activity into a fund-raising event for your favourite charity.

May is considered one of the busiest and most rewarding months in the UK gardening calendar, acting as the bridge between spring and summer. However, it is important to garden with care as birds settle into the nesting season. Before trimming hedges or pruning shrubs, always check for nests first. Providing a shallow dish of water can also help thirsty fledglings during dry spells and remember to have a good supply of water nearby for yourself too, it can be thirsty work, and you need to stay hydrated.
