Week 4 at The Wildlife Foundation 🦁🌿

And just like that, we reached our final camp of the Kenya adventure - The Wildlife Foundation in Athi River, about an hour from Nairobi. We spent four nights here, and it was the perfect place to finish an incredible four weeks.

Our final week was packed with conservation projects, including a nature walk and installing camera traps to help monitor wildlife, tree planting, making gabions, a fascinating culture talk, building lion bomas to help reduce human-wildlife conflict, retrieving the camera traps and a visit to the local market.

The lion bomas were particularly special, as they help protect livestock from lions and, in turn, help reduce conflict between local communities and wildlife. It was amazing to see how the projects we were involved in could make a genuine difference to both people and animals. 🦁❤️

After four weeks of early mornings, hard work, muddy clothes, making bricks, building houses, planting trees, working alongside local communities and experiencing a completely different way of life, our final meal together was a chance to sit back and reflect on everything we had achieved.

Four weeks has gone incredibly quickly, but what an experience it has been. 🇰🇪❤️

And we’re home and what a welcome at Heathrow! 🇰🇪❤️

After four incredible weeks in Kenya, it’s hard to put into words how I feel. I’m leaving with a heart full of gratitude for an experience I’ll never forget.

The people we met were so welcoming, kind and encouraging, and I’ve been humbled by the warmth and resilience of everyone we encountered. Building houses from sticks and mud was incredibly rewarding, but also thought-provoking. Seeing how difficult everyday life can be for some families, while knowing I’ll return home to so many comforts and luxuries, has really made me reflect on how fortunate I am.

I’m so grateful for the privileges I have and I know I’ll appreciate the little things in life so much more.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported me before, during and throughout this incredible journey. Your support meant so much. ❤️

🌍 Week Three at Camp Ndoto ⛺️❤️

And that’s the end of week three and incredible week at Camp Ndoto, which is run by the amazing local woman, Mama Mercy. What a busy, but truly beautiful, week it’s been! ❤️

We started the week deworming goats, then working on a mama’s house project, helping to finish the floor and making bricks — with plenty of delicious chapatis along the way! 🧱🥘 We also had the chance to collect coconuts, and turn elephant poo into paper, giving us another little glimpse into everyday life here.

One of the highlights was an incredibly early start to tackle the Murungu Hills Eco Trek. We were rewarded for getting up before sunrise with the most stunning sunrise over the hills. 🌅 And to finish the day, an equally beautiful sunset, along with sightings of some amazing wildlife and incredible dark starry skies. 🦒🐒🦓

We ended the week with a fantastic safari, followed by a visit to a Maasai tribe, where we learnt more about their incredible culture, traditions and way of life. ❤️

Another week full of hard work, new experiences, wonderful people and memories that will stay with us forever. 🇰🇪✨

Last day at Camp Muhaka and today we enjoyed a relaxing day by the beach and a treat for lunch! This week seems to have gone quicker than the last one, from painting at the local school, hanging out with the kids in the village and mamas making chapatis, to learning about the Kenya culture and exploring the local forest. It’s been a special one. Looking forward to seeing what week 3 at Camp mama mercy brings tomorrow! 🇰🇪

Week 2 is underway, and we’ve arrived at Camp Muhaka, ready for another exciting week of work and adventure! ⛺️🇰🇪

Before we begin our next project, here’s a look back at an incredible first week at Camp Tiwi. We helped build a house for a local family, took part in a beach clean-up to protect the beautiful coastline, visited the local village and learned to cook with a mama, and spent time playing games and making memories with the children.

We’re so grateful for everything we’ve experienced so far and can’t wait to see what this week brings!

After a long travel day - home to Heathrow 🚍, an overnight flight to Rwanda ✈️, connecting flight to Mombasa via Zanzibar 🛫- it’s no wonder we felt a little travel sick!

But we’ve arrived at Camp Tiwi, our home for the week. And what a beautiful beach camp it is! 🐒

After a good nights sleep (as good as it can be sharing with 13 others!) and a tasty local breakfast we’re starting project work today - building houses the traditional way in the local Community 🧱🛖🛘💪
