How does lymph move if it doesn’t have a pump??
Your lymphatic system…the unsung hero – it keeps your internals clean & helps you absorb the fats you eat. It’s also known as your immunity.
Lymph Fluid is a derivative of tissue (interstitial) fluid which in turn is a derivative of blood plasma.
So, Lymph starts as plasma, escapes the blood vessels, bathes the tissues and in so picks up waste products (metabolic waste, old blood cells, bacteria, viruses & any other debris) – it is then picked up by the initial lymphatic vessels and is now lymph fluid.
Lymph fluid, by its very nature, is ‘dirty water’! So, before it goes back into your bloodstream it has to be cleaned. This happens in Lymph Nodes.
Once cleaned it is directed into one of two big pipes (ducts) and finally joins the bloodstream at subclavian veins.
The circulatory system has no pump – unlike the blood (heart). It mostly has to work against gravity too. So, how does lymph move?

Who can benefit from MLD massage?
Those on heavy med
Those with a sedentary lifestyle
Those with a weakened immunity (through illness)

MLD is not truly a massage – no medium is used and it is very superficial, rhythmic and slow and so may also be helpful in aiding anxiety/depression as it’s almost meditative.

Not to be confused with Brazilian LD which is heavier & works to sculpt (usually working the abdomen a lot)
