Join Yvonne Farrell to explore the basic theories of the Pi Wei Lun (Spleen/Stomach School), Yin Fire and their relationship to the modern theories around the gut-brain axis.

This 4-hour online course will provide the framework for understanding the relationship between the Gut-Brain axis and the classical theories of Li D**g Yuan (founder of the Earth School).

The course will provide a clear context for modern, chronic, difficult to treat digestive disorders.

Participants will learn:

๐Ÿ’› Foundational theories of the Spleen-Stomach school.
๐Ÿ’› Relationship between habit, survival, digestion & illness.
๐Ÿ’› How Poly-vagal theory is understood in CCM.
๐Ÿ’› Importance of gall bladder as the link between brain & gut.
๐Ÿ’› The Triune Brain & the 3 levels of qi.
๐Ÿ’› Mental-emotional disruption associated with digestive disorders.
๐Ÿ’› How Yin Fire & Gu Syndrome are the root of most chronic, intractable digestive disorders.

Some protocols will be provided, but there will be more focus on treatment approaches for these difficult conditions seen in clinic.

We have all of the five elements within us, but as we know, we also have one element which is primarily imbalanced. This is what we work with in the five element style of acupuncture and how we help our patients feel better in themselves.

If a person is an earth type, issues around these themes may be dominant in their lives, particularly in times of stress:

๐ŸŒพ Feeling supported (or not)
๐ŸŒพ Getting nourishment (of all kinds)
๐ŸŒพ Feeling grounded or centred
๐ŸŒพ Mental clarity and clear thinking
๐ŸŒพ Being understood by others

Depending on how balanced the earth type person is, these issues and themes might lead them to begin to carry certain unanswered questions such as:

๐Ÿ’› How can I get more centred?
๐Ÿ’› How can I get the support I need?
๐Ÿ’› Who will nourish me?
๐Ÿ’› How can I get what I want from the world?

๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ Do any of these issues, themes or questions resonate with you? Do you know your own element type? Do you receive five element acupuncture yourself? Let us know in the comments!

โ˜ฏ๏ธ Did you know that we are unlike any other acupuncture college, because we offer this integrated teaching style of both five element constitutional acupuncture & traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)โ€ฆ

07/09/2026

We have all of the five elements within us, and as we have seen in our recent posts, when the earth element becomes imbalanced, it can create different symptoms within our minds, bodies and emotions.

But we may also have one element which is primarily imbalanced, which creates recognisable characteristics in a person. This is what we work with in the five element style of acupuncture. It suggests that the constitutional weakness of the element and its organs have an important impact on our health and our emotional expression.

If a personโ€™s earth element is primarily imbalanced, or weakest out of the five elements, then they could be an earth type person and they might:

๐ŸŒŽ Have a yellow look at the side of the eyes
๐ŸŒŽ Have a voice tone that goes up and down a lot
๐ŸŒŽ Give you all kinds of support and help
๐ŸŒŽ Over-smother you with care and concern
๐ŸŒŽ Complain a lot, as if constantly seeking sympathy
๐ŸŒŽ Look either under or over-nourished
๐ŸŒŽ Feel tired and sometimes say they can't think

๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ So do we have any wonderful earth element types in the house?! Do you know your own dominant element type? Let us know in the comments!

06/09/2026

One in two people will have a diagnosis of cancer in their lifetime; almost half of those will survive their cancer by 10 or more years.

Acupuncturists will be seeing these long-term cancer survivors in their clinics increasingly over the coming years.

Therefore it is important to understand the issues cancer survivors face after cancer treatment ends, both in the short-term and for many years after.

Due to this increasing need in our clinics, in addition to her 1 day โ€œIntroduction to the Safe Practice of Acupuncture in Cancer Careโ€ workshop, Beverley de Valois is also running this 2 day CPD course called โ€œAcupuncture for Cancer Survivors: Restoring Health and Resilience after Cancer Treatmentโ€โ€ฆ

So you can combine both courses for a 3 day CPD series and attend all 3 days in November - Friday 20th, Saturday 21st & Sunday 24th - at a discounted, bundle price.

Did you know that nearly 25% of cancer survivors live with at least one long-term consequence of their cancer treatment?

Many are told by their medical professionals that nothing can be done, and they need to learn to live with troublesome chronic symptoms. But there are things we can do as acupuncturistsโ€ฆ

Acupuncture is an evidence-based, non-pharmacological intervention that can support cancer survivors to deal with the physical, psychological, and social consequences of cancer treatments.

It can reduce the symptom burden, enable coping, and improve long-term health and wellbeing โ€“ many cancer survivors exclaim โ€œacupuncture has given me my life backโ€.

This course aims to increase acupuncturistsโ€™ awareness of the challenges cancer survivors face after cancer treatment.

It will empower acupuncturists to address these issues using acupuncture and moxibustion, and to develop their own toolbox, regardless of the style(s) of acupuncture they practice.

๐Ÿค” The Earth Element has a propensity towards deficiency, particularly if we do not eat to fully nourish our bodies, or if we engage in too much mental work / studyโ€ฆ but this can also then lead to creating symptoms of Earth excess if the deficiency is ongoingโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ˜ฌ Because Earth excess often develops after prolonged Earth deficiency, when chronic poor digestion creates phlegm that builds up over time to slow and congest body processes.

๐Ÿคง Signs of Earth excess tend to be those that clog up our bodies, and can include a dull headache, yeast infections, sinus congestion, respiratory phlegm, lumps or nodules under skin, constant worrying or rumination of thoughts, tendency towards obesity or being overweight, nausea, vomiting, belching or burping, constipation and brain fog.

๐Ÿ’› When we identify these symptoms in ourselves or in our patients, we can choose specific acupuncture points, and / or offer lifestyle guidance to help us return to balance once more.

๐Ÿ‘ In this case, reducing and resolving phlegm or dampness in the body can help us to feel lighter, clearer and less weighed down or clogged up, both physically and mentallyโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ’™ We have an amazing introduction to the safe practice of acupuncture in cancer care CPD day with Beverley de Valois, coming up in the Autumn.

๐Ÿ’™ She will be exploring cancer treatments & side effects, plus guidelines for acupuncturists clarifying contraindications & red flags.

๐Ÿ’™ Working with people undergoing treatment for cancer is often seen as daunting by acupuncturists. In addition, there are many stories about what to do or not do in this field.

๐Ÿ’™ This 1-day session (option to do a 3 day bundle) introduces the subject of cancer and provides a fundamental understanding of cancer and its treatments, and of some of the side effects of these treatments.

๐Ÿ’™ A key focus is on the guidelines for the safe practice of acupuncture for people undergoing treatment for cancer โ€“ this clarifies contraindications, potential adverse events, and amber / red flags that may arise. How to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team is also addressed.

๐Ÿ’™ This course aims to introduce the essentials of cancer and its treatments to acupuncturists with little or no experience of this area of healthcare, or working with people living with and beyond cancer.

โš–๏ธ The aim in Chinese medicine is always to return to balance for optimal health and wellbeing. Until we return to balance, we may experience various symptoms.

๐Ÿ’› When the Earth Element is deficient within us, any or all of its functions may be weak. Therefore an Earth deficiency may manifest in the areas of digestion, blood, thought or energy.

๐Ÿ˜ด Symptoms could include, fatigue, loose stools, pale lips and tongue, dry skin, short or scanty menstruation, haemorrhoids, poor appetite, being overweight, mental spaciness or brain fog, frequent bruising, worrying a lot, or feeling sleepy after meals.

๐Ÿง There may also be issues with blood sugar such as diabetes or hypoglycaemia, cravings for sweet things or having a โ€œsweet toothโ€ generallyโ€ฆ abdominal noises, bloating and gas may also be present when the Earth energy is lacking internally within us.

๐ŸŒผ When we identify these symptoms in ourselves or in our patients, we can choose specific acupuncture points, and / or offer lifestyle guidance to help us return to balance once more.

๐Ÿ™Œ In this case, treatment should help us feel more energised in body and mind!

02/09/2026

David Hartmann first picked up a tuning fork that belonged to his Mum around about 20 years ago. She had just travelled to the USA (from Australia) for a tuning fork course and came home super excited to treat people. David was her first patient and he felt amazing after the first treatment.

At that time, David was primarily focusing on his acupuncture and Tui Na massage, so this sound healing modality took somewhat of a backseat in his clinic. But over the years though, tuning forks became an undeniable force - both David and his mother were getting awesome results.

By 2016 David was consistently treating patients with tuning forks, acupuncture and massage in his clinic on a daily basis.

This workshop is designed to give you that passion, that excitement, and that feeling that David had when he first discovered this modality. Using tuning forks in this way can really enhance your clinical practice.

Including new content that is different from the previous one-day workshop at CICM in 2025.

At the end of this workshop participants will:

โžก๏ธ Be more familiar with what tuning forks are, how they work, as well as what they can be used for.

โžก๏ธ Appreciate the range of different tuning forks that are commonly used in a natural medicine clinic.

โžก๏ธ Understand the differences between the various tuning forks, based on their frequency (Hz), their size (short or long) and the forks being weighted or unweighted.

โžก๏ธ Be confident in the correct striking of the different tuning forks.

โžก๏ธ Appreciate the subtle differences between the use of weighted tuning forks on the body versus unweighted tuning forks off the body.

โžก๏ธ Feel more confident in using the tuning forks on the acupuncture channels (including the eight extraordinary vessels) and acupuncture points.

Across the two days you will learn how to use weighted tuning forks on the body via the acupuncture channels and points, as well as the chakra system.

You will also learn how to use unweighted forks out in the aura or Biofield via Mother/Father zones, the Ancestral River, and various constructs, including:

โœ… Tuning Fork Types
โœ… Tian Di Ren (Heaven Earth Human)
โœ… Thought Cemetery and Columning
โœ… Heart/Pericardium Physical and Metaphysical Activation
โœ… Throat Physical and Metaphysical Activation
โœ… The Two Wolves Activation
โœ… Ren Mai / Du Mai or Chong Mai / Dai Mai Activations
โœ… Mother / Father Zones or Feminine / Masculine Zones
โœ… Ancestral River

You will also learn how to treat the organ system both physically and meta-physically with the tuning forks.

Using tuning forks alongside your acupuncture, and within the acupuncture framework that you already use and know, will really enhance your clinical practice and benefit your patients, especially those who are sensitive, energetically depleted, or needle-phobic.

๐ŸŒŽ Each of the five elements have an associated organ pair, and the earth element has the Spleen and the Stomach.

๐ŸŒพ We might see the functions of these organs coming to the fore at this time of year, as late summer is the season associated with the earth element.

๐ŸŒฝ Are you looking at your nutrition again, after a summer holiday full of indulgence and treats?

๐ŸŒผ Are you looking to nourish yourself on a deeper level, an emotional level, to increase your self care right now?

๐Ÿ’› After the busy season of summer, we may now enjoy the slowing down, the harvesting and ripeningโ€ฆ we can now relish the good stuff, and the โ€œsweetnessโ€ in our livesโ€ฆ
