It is just over a month until our Annual club Funday and once again we will be holding our Pre-loved Football boot stall with all proceeds going to charity.
Each year since 2016 (with a couple of years COVID break in the middle) we have held our Pre-Loved boot stall raising monies for charities both National and local, and in that time we have raised more than £3,500 pounds. This doesn't happen without the generosity of people donating boots that are surplus to requirements and then others coming and buying boots on the day.
This year is no exception and once again we will be running the stall and we are extremely please to be donating all proceeds to the Reading Street Pastors.
On Friday and Saturday nights, the Reading Street Pastors provide care and support to members of the public who may be intoxicated, separated from friends, feeling vulnerable, anxious, or experiencing mental health difficulties. A key part of their role is ensuring people get home safely, whether that is by arranging taxis, contacting family members, or accompanying them to a place of safety.
They also operate a Safe Space in the town centre, where individuals can receive support and, if needed, be seen by a paramedic. This service is regularly used by those who feel overwhelmed, as well as by the police, who bring individuals with minor injuries. This allows people to receive prompt care and reduces the need for lengthy visits to A&E, while enabling officers to remain on duty.
Their work significantly eases pressure on local emergency services, particularly the police, who often call on us for assistance.
In addition to weekend patrols, they also support the community during busy periods such as Freshers' Week, Halloween, and New Year’s Eve. They carry out daytime patrols in the town centre, visit Reading College weekly, and work in areas such as Southcote to help address anti-social behaviour. They also assist at major local events including Royal Ascot, Henley Regatta, and Reading Festival.
The Reading Street Pastors team will also be helping us out with our Car Park at Funday so please do take some time to thank them and maybe see how you can help further with their work.
If you have any football boots taking up space in a cupboard please do hand them to your LPFC representative or send us a message and we can collect. If you can speak to your friends, family and work colleagues and collect all those boots that need to find a new home we would be extremely grateful.
