We're back at Danby show again this year!

Come and find us at our stand for some delicious home made bakes made by our wonderful colleagues and a good catch up.

**Bluetongue vaccination**

Due to the devastating outbreak in southern parts of the country, nationally the demand for vaccine is currently outstripping supply. If you are wanting to source vaccine, please contact the office as soon as possible next week so we have an idea of how much we need to try and secure as it becomes available. If you have a small number of animals to vaccinate, please let us know as we may be able to run vaccine days to split bottles to reduce wastage and cost.

The situation is not slowing down and the official APHA map is likely to be around 2 weeks behind due to backlog of testing - hundreds of suspect cases are being reported weekly by vets in other parts of the country.

Please look out for an email bulletin early next week with further information and advice.

Reports from colleagues in southern counties of England are worrying - cases of Bluetongue are really taking off, with increased prevalence and severity compared to last year. Reports of mortality in triple figures in sheep flocks are not out of the ordinary and severe production loss in cattle herds.

A reminder of signs to look out for:
- unexplained deaths
- unwell sheep with nasal discharge
- drooling in cattle or sheep
- swollen or crusted muzzles or lips
- lameness with swelling above the hoof
- abortions and stillbirths

Bluetongue is a notifiable disease so suspicion must be reported.

Vaccination is the only way to protect stock against Blutongue and reduce the losses, please discuss with a farm vet.

If you have an emergency after 1:00pm, please call our usual practice number. Your call will be automatically redirected as usual to our call handlers and subsequently the farm team.

Thank you for your understanding, and we'll be back to our normal Saturday opening hours next weekend.

Could your farm be one of three chosen for a programme worth over £10,000 in support?

Be the Change is coming to the North York Moors National Park, it’s an 18-month, coaching journey designed to help farmers build more resilient, profitable and regenerative businesses.

The programme offers one-to-one coaching, soil and grazing mentoring, ecology health checks, subsidised testing, peer learning, and access to specialist expertise, all tailored to your farm. Funded by FiPL (Farming in Protected Landscapes) and led by farm systems consultant Liz Genever and EmpowerAg founder Amy Hughes.

We're looking for farms where most income comes from farming and where there's a genuine appetite for change; whether that's improving soils, reducing inputs, encouraging biodiversity, or simply figuring out what comes next.

☀🌦Sunshine + rain = increasing possibility of worm challenge

Compared to last summer we are seeing higher worm burdens in grazing lambs. The warm weather means worms complete their lifecycle quicker and rain/moisture helps break up faecal pellets allowing worm larvae to escape and climb up the herbage ready to be eaten by grazing animals.

Do you know which worm treatments are effective when on your farm?
Why not access the Animal Health and Welfare Pathway funding to investigate this further? A wormer treatment check will help you build knowledge about which products are performing best in your flock.

Even on a grey rainy June day, what better “office” could we wish for?

As the dust settles on a busy Spring, now is a great time to review and reflect on this year’s calving/lambing period. Government Animal Health and Welfare funding can be used, give us a call and the vets can guide you to access this.

What have we learnt from Challenge Sheep??

As many of you know, Dawn has been involved as a facilitator in AHDB’s 7 year long Challenge Sheep project which drew to a close last autumn.

📣Some exciting news! 📣

Earlier in the year, we were proud to share that Dawn had been shortlisted for Agricultural Advisor of the Year at the National Women in Agriculture Awards - and this week, we're delighted to announce that she won at an awards ceremony in London this week! 🏆

A fantastic and well-deserved achievement, recognising Dawn's dedication, expertise and commitment to supporting the agricultural community.

A few words from Dawn:

"I am very honoured and humbled to have won this award but the real heroes are the clients we work with every day. I'm so passionate about farming and its future and it's easy to genuinely love my job (not always at 2am) when I work alongside such great people. Thank you to the colleagues and clients who collaborated to nominate me for this award and to all the hardworking farmers we work with week in, week out. Another chapter in my book if I ever write it!"
