I think we vastly underestimate the importance of play once we become adults.

For me, the best kind of play is also difficult — something physical and technical enough that it demands my complete attention. Ring work does exactly that. Strength, balance, timing, coordination… there simply isn’t any spare brain left for tomorrow, yesterday or the endless internal chatter.

And somewhere in that combination of effort and play, I find a wonderfully meditative state.

Completely present. Completely absorbed. And having big fun hanging upside down 🙃

There is something rather beautiful about an ephemeral pond.

At the moment, this one is almost entirely Yang: baked earth, heat, sunlight, contraction and dryness. The cracked bed looks lifeless at first glance, but of course it isn’t. It is simply waiting.

In Chinese medicine and Daoist thought, Yin and Yang are not fixed opposites but continually changing states. Yin is the cool, moist, nourishing, receptive aspect of nature; Yang is warm, dry, active and expansive. Neither is “good” or “bad” — life depends upon their movement into one another.

Here, Yin is temporarily depleted. The water has gone, the soil has contracted and hardened, and only a few determined plants remain. But the potential for Yin is still held within the landscape: in the dormant seeds, roots and organisms beneath the surface, and in the earth waiting for rain.

Eventually the balance will turn. Rain will fall, the cracks will soften, the basin will fill and this apparently barren ground will become a pond again — cool, wet, abundant and alive.

A lovely little reminder that absence is not always loss. Sometimes Yin has simply withdrawn for a season, waiting for the conditions in which it can return. ☯️🌱💧

Tuning forks with different vibrational frequencies placed on acupuncture points across the body, can soothe the parasympathetic nervous system, which means you feel beautifully calm ☺️

Suffering today folks 😩😩😩 I have deep intercostal muscle strain so am using electro-acupuncture to awaken local pain killing agents naturally produced by the body. The needles were inserted under guidance by my 16yo daughter (who wants to be a doctor one day so figured this is a good a place as any to start 🤣) and I am buzzing away and feeling the familiar spreading numbness that signals treatment is working 👍

Headaches and migraines often respond very well to acupuncture, and side-step need for 💊 and so minimise risk of Medicine Overuse Headache 🤕 👍
