CLINICAL ACTION INTERNATIONAL: STREP A & SCARLET FEVER!!!

There are increased numbers of cases of scarlet fever, and also invasive group A streptococcal infection. Sadly a child in my county died yesterday, increasing the number of deaths in children. 🥲

Scarlet fever is usually a mild illness, but it is highly infectious," and we would warn parents to be on the alert for symptoms – sore throat, headache, fever, and a fine, pinkish or red body rash with a sandpapery feel on white skin and purple or dark red on black /brown skin. Early treatment with antibiotics can reduce the risk of complications such as pneumonia or a bloodstream infection. Please seek medical early.
