In my practice, I don't start with "How do I fix you?" I start with "How do we understand and accept you?"

💚 May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a perfect time to reclaim the energy we often lose to the "what if's." 🪫

​One of the greatest catalysts for burnout and chronic anxiety is living too far into the future. 🚀

When we ruminate on scenarios that haven't happened, we end up feeling defeated by battles that haven't even begun. We trade our current peace for a future fear that may never arrive. 😱🤯

​Why Presence Matters: 🙋‍♀️

​By returning to the present, you regain control. Even if that control is over something seemingly small like the rhythm of your breath or the warmth of a cup of tea, it signals to your brain that you are safe in this moment. 🫂

​The Daily Grounding Practice: 🪏

​This month, let’s commit to a few minutes each day to engage our senses and anchor ourselves in reality. ⚓️

The gap between a diagnosis 💊 and educational reality 📚 is where many families of non-attenders fall through the cracks. 🎓

​As I continue my MSc Psychology journey alongside my established practice at Clear Skies Counselling, my focus remains on the complex psychology of Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA).

​I provide more than just talk therapy, I provide:

✅ Psychological formulation of avoidance drivers.
✅ Collaboration with Southampton & Hampshire SEND teams.
✅ A tiered transition model from home-visits to my Romsey clinic.

Self-neglect isn't a conscious choice. It's usually a response to mental health challenges or emotional overload.
In the rush of everyday life, it’s easy to get off track...
Small things like skipped meals, late replies, or constant over-scheduling are often overlooked.
But when "getting off track" becomes your day-to-day, and neglecting your needs becomes routine, this might be signaling deeper issues.

Hello all, 🌼

It has been a busy spring for Clear Skies Counselling and for myself personally whilst I am on my own learning journey with further study. 🎓🌱

With life being so busy for us all, we as humans can often forget to stop once in a while and take in the beauty around us, whether this being places or the people we hold dear to us. I too, am guilty of not getting off the 'fast train' and often missing my 'metaphorical stop' from time to time. 🚂 ‼️

I hope this helps as a reminder to pause for a moment and value your own needs, as I often hear from clients and the people in my life that they tend to be 'at the bottom of their own list!'

The month of May is a pinnacle month for new beginnings, brighter days, and optimism. ✨️

As we move into May, here are a few ways to honor that metaphorical stop I mentioned;

1, ​The Micro-Pause: If a full day of rest isn't possible, finding three minutes to simply breathe and notice the temperature of the air or the sound of the birds can reset the nervous system.

2, ​Boundaries as self-care: Reminding ourselves that "No" to an external demand is often a "Yes" to our own mental clarity.

3, ​Embracing the Season: Taking five minutes to physically step into the May sunshine and letting the brighter days actually touch your skin.

Living in "survival mode" isn't just exhausting, it’s biologically taxing. When we remain in a state of fight-or-flight, our bodies are flooded with cortisol. 🤯

While this response is designed by the amygdala to keep us safe, chronic activation, even from "minor" inconveniences is a signal that our nervous system is struggling to regulate. ⚠️

​Listen to the signals. You wouldn't ignore a red warning light on your car's dashboard. Doing so leads to a total breakdown. Your body is no exception. ‼️🔴

​If daily tasks feel insurmountable or social events leave you depleted, your body is requesting a "pause." ⏸️ This isn't a permanent stop, it’s a necessary recharge.🔋⚡️

Aiming for a full battery, not just 75%, is the difference between thriving and merely surviving.

I am very happy to announce that as of May 2026 Clear Skies Counselling will be offering this beautiful space in Romsey every Thursday from late afternoon and throughout the evening. This is a positive move for my little practice and I can't wait to get started with seeing some of my clients in person! 🌱🙌✨️
